The Zombies legendary keyboardist Rod Argent, 79, has suffered a stroke and announced his retirement yesterday. In June he celebrated his wedding anniversary and birthday. According to his management “Rod had recently returned home from a triumphant Zombies tour of the U.K. and spent a weekend in London with his beloved wife, Cathy, celebrating his 79th birthday and their 52nd wedding anniversary, before the stroke occurred.”
He was hospitalized for a single night, then released the next day and advised to have several months of rest and recuperation. Rod does plan to eventually continue to record music with The Zombies....

Dave Loggins [second cousin of Kenny Loggins], whose biggest hit was 1974's 'Please Come To Boston', died Wednesday at a hospice in Nashville. He was 76.
His songwriting spanned over five decades, and his songs were recorded by Joan Baez, Toby Keith, Johnny Cash, Wynonna Judd, Smokey Robinson, Ray Charles, Reba McEntire, Tanya Tucker, Kenny Rogers, and Willie Nelson...
His biggest cover song came two years before his own hit when Three Dog Night took 'Pieces of April' to #19 on Billboard's Hot 100 in the latter part of 1972. 7 years later his own version failed to chart.
In 982, Dave Loggins wrote the theme song 'Agusta' for the Agusta Masters Golf Tournament, which has been used every year since then.
No cause of death was given...

July 5, 1955 - 70 years ago today - the big bang of rock ‘n roll - Elvis Presley records th ‘a’ side of his furst Sun record ‘That’s All Right’. Pictures is a bootleg copy of the record sleeved in a Sun sleeve autographed by guitarist Scotty Moore and drummer D.J. Fontana. The second photo is of a real Sun 45 that completed my collection of Elvis’ Sun singles. I bought it at a Dallas record store for the bargain basement price of $75 - couldn’t get my money out fast enough…:

When I interviewed her a few years ago, she fondly remembered the song, and told me it was considered to be released as a single here in the states. it's still one of my favorites by her.....what do you think?...

Thursday afternoon June 6, 1968 at 4 o’clock in the afternoon, I was in the control room of KBIX in Muskogee, Oklahoma. The studios were in the 9th floor of the Barnes building downtown with a great view of the surrounding area. I was about to play the first record of my first shift on a radio station…still at it today, but nothing will ever surpass that first moment playing ‘U.S. Male’…

Watched the new Beach Boys documentary which dropped on Disney+ today. There were two things I hadn't previously seen in a Beach Boys documentary: a picture of Al Jardine's family, in particular his mom who forked over 4300 for the guys to rent instruments, and a picture of the home Mike Love grew up in, which looked much more opulent than the tract home the Wilsons lived in...
Other than that, we've seen this all before. The 2023 reunion at the beach where the first Capitol album cover was shot is played up in the trailer for the film. It consists of a few seconds of silent footage adding nothing to the film, other than they were there sometime last year. No context, no update. There's more in the trailer than in the film...
If you're a Beach Boy fan (I am), you'll want to see it, but there's not much to add to their story.

This is the first chart single by Frankie Valli (Francis Castelluccio) as The Four Lovers. It was on Billboard’s Hot 100 for 5 weeks beginning on May 26, 1956. Six years later, they hit #1 for 5 weeks as The Four Seasons. Between 1962 and 1980, they put 53 singles on the Billboard chart, making them one of the most consistent hit making groups of all time…not including an additional 17 solo hits…
What a career, that continues to this day…
