Lots of players get stuck in their video games in anime, but few get to start with the advantage of Overlord’s protagonist Momonga. (Yes this is a post about video game related anime!) After refusing to log out of a VR game before the servers shut down for good, Momonga is trapped in the game with NPCs that suddenly develop their own personalities. The catch is that Momonga is a fully leveled, powerful guild leader that can crush pretty much any enemy he meets (similar to one punch man). This is an awesome anime with a thrilling ride, watch the first 4 episodes I promise you will be hooked! Another video game related anime is of course Sword Art Online (also Gun Gaga Online) Protagonist Kirito and 9,999 other players find themselves trapped in this fantasy world after logging in at the game’s launch. Death in game means death in real life. Later arcs of Sword Art Online focus on different games and various conflicts, but this first one has some of the best drama, most impactful fights, and shows great character growth for Kirito and his friends. I have also heard of a couple of other video game related animes, 2 that interest me in particular are called ‘Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade’ Works and ‘The King's Avatar’. Has anyone watched these or have any other good recommendations? Let me know in the comments :)
Crackdown 3 is a game tons of people have looked forward to since its announcement back at E3 2014. (with a planned 2016 release date) It has since then been a majorly problematic project for Microsoft. The game would use cloud computing tech, which would allow an unprecedented level of scenic destruction by pooling rendering resources from the cloud. (as opposed to simply utilising the Xbox One's limited hardware) On paper this sounds great however with multiple release date setbacks, a rather underwhelming array of gameplay footage, lukewarm E3 play-test reports and the suspicious lack of recent information about the cloud tech/game, it feels like this is setting up to be an aggressively mediocre mess of a game, that or it will get cancelled all together which is a shame as I personally did enjoy the original/s.
When you put together the director of the Armored Core series, the character designer from the Metal Gear Solid series and the mech designer in Ghost in the Shell: Arise / Mobile Suit Gundam 00 / Xenoblade Chronicles X you get the game ‘Left Alive’. Left Alive is a brand-new survival action shooter telling a human story of survival from the perspective of three different protagonists during a devastating invasion set in war-torn Novo Slava in 2127. It is a dark and gritty world. Play as both man and machine while exploring a devastated city ravaged by the atrocities of war and survive while facing off against powerfully armed troops, armored vehicles and towering mechs. As you progress through the game, experience multiple story paths each requiring bold decisions with desperate consequences. Check out the trailer below!
One game I am particularly looking forward to after experiencing the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane trilogy is the Spyro Reignited Trilogy. The game is scheduled for release on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on November 13, 2018 after being delayed to make further improvements to the game. The Spyro Reignited Trilogy is a collection of remasters of the first three games in the Spyro series: Spyro the Dragon, Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage! and Spyro: Year of the Dragon; all of which were originally developed by Insomniac Games for the PlayStation and released from 1998 to 2000. Eurogamer noted there was a high public demand for a classic Spyro trilogy to receive the same treatment after N. Sane Trilogy was released. I couldn’t agree more with this statement. The N Sane Trilogy was beautifully remastered offering an enjoyable variety of challenges and environments keep you engaged from one level to the next while keeping the difficulty level of the originals. (Crash 3 is a bit easy) Crash kept the number 1 spot in the UK charts for some time yet for some reason Gamespot only gave the game a 6/10. I hope Spyro has the same success although I always did prefer Crash over it. Check out the gameplay video below for the Spyro trilogy.. What would you like to see remastered next?
Race the Sun is an endless running video game developed and published by American indie studio Flippfly and released on August 19, 2013. The game becomes something more once you have completed all the challenges, completing the challenges reward you with upgrades that will allow you to reach further into the level (which changes every 24 hours) and new game modes. With minimalist style, great competitive score based gameplay and excellent music if you haven’t checked this game out yet now is the time! Check out the video below, like the page, leave and comment and share the post with your friends!
Hotline Miami is a game I often revisit even if it is just for the outstanding soundtrack (The music is a mixture of down-tempo psychedelic grooves and fast-paced electro that feels right at home with the intense visuals). The game is a top down shooter with a unique retro style design, the controls are super responsive and the challenge is top notch. With its level of difficulty the levels can become frustrating (especially bosses) but when you die it is usually fair and there is no one to blame but yourself. Before the start of each level, you choose from a selection of animal masks, most of which have useful perks. For instance, if you wear the Tony the Tiger mask, you have faster executions, while George the Giraffe allows you to see farther. They're a neat addition to the combat system, which initially sees you taking down enemies with your fists and with a selection of melee/long range weapons that you pick up, such as baseball bats, iron bars, knives, swords and guns alike. Enemies die with a single blow, as do you so it’s pretty much guaranteed that you will die.. A lot.. But if you have ever played super meat boy you will learn from the mistakes made and probably die a different way to be honest. This said when you do die all it takes is one hit of a button and your back, no loading screens and a checkpoint for every floor / area beaten. *Thumbs up* ‘God damn it! I want to finish the stage but the music is too good Dx’ Check out the video below, if you have never played the game it's definitely one to check out.
With more staff members working on the game than The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt CD Projekt Red brings us a story-driven, open world RPG of the dark future… Cyberpunk 2077. The game does not have a confirmed release date as of yet however could be with us as early as 2019. I personally can not wait for this game it looks and sounds phenomenal. CD Projekt Red’s main strength lies within there handcrafted single player experiences. They have confirmed that they are not going to be artificially extending the playtime by pushing more content into the game. And that content within the game will add to the story-driven experience in a meaningful way and give the player a top class gaming experience. In an interview it was revealed that Cyberpunk 2077 will launch as an entirely single -player experience however the team at CD Projekt Red are researching whether the game could have a multiplayer component: ... They have confirmed however that the main focus in on the single player RPG element of the game. Check out the extended gameplay footage here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vjF9GgrY9c0 Or check out the trailer below =) Super hyped for this one!
A hot topic at the moment seems to be ‘video game soundtracks’.. Off the top of my head if I had to pick my personal best i’d be looking at the likes of Halo, Hotline Miami, GTA Vice City or maybe even Zelda… I don’t know.. .. What I do know is there are plenty of games out there with killer soundtracks (both retro and modern) #Battletoadspausemusic What is your favourite video game soundtrack? A closed beta for ‘Jump Force’ is now live, Jump Force is a fighting game that looks fairly similar to Dragon Ball Xenoverse (and other games like that) in regards to how it plays however the level of detail (especially in the environments) is much higher and include real world arenas such as ‘Times Square’. There are currently over 22 Characters currently confirmed from multiple different Anime/Mangas including (but not limited to) Bleach, Dragon Ball, Hunter × Hunter, Naruto, One Piece, Saint Seiya, Yu Yu Hakusho and Yu-Gi-Oh! Jump Force is due to be released in February 2019 and is published by Bandai Namco Entertainment. Have a look at this gameplay below and tell me what you think so far.
16 Years ago today Timesplitters 2 was released. I never played the first game of the trilogy however number 2 and 3 are among the best 1st person shooters I have come across, With unique and interesting levels/characters, a great (but short) campaign and similar controls to N64’s Goldeneye timesplitters was a franchise that you couldn’t miss. Timesplitters was a great game both single player and multiplayer and it offered a reasonable and fun challenge, I personally would love to see a comeback, there was a teaser trailer posted last year but am pretty skeptical. I have posted some gameplay of TS2 below. Let me know your thoughts on the franchise and check out the page :)
Today I want to talk about Telltale Games. Telltale games was one of the more cherished video game developers and publishers in the industry, thanks to their unique art style, storytelling and choice-based gameplay. In 2012, Telltale released their first season of ‘The Walking Dead’, despite releasing previous games such as Sam and Max and Tales of Monkey Island it wasn’t until The Walking Dead that the company took off. The Walking dead game earned widespread acclaim from critics and gamers alike. This success encouraged Telltale to go after more popular franchises to adapt, such as ‘Game of Thrones’, ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’, and even ‘Batman’. But none were as successful as The Walking Dead. The games made by Telltale were unique, choices made during the games truly affected the outcome of each episode, aside from your own choices the actual story telling was great. Unfortunately, recently Telltale Games recently laid off almost its entire workforce. They kept just over two dozen people on board in order to fulfill their obligations for the Minecraft: Story Mode adaptation for Netflix, but a number of other projects have been either cancelled or reported to be cancelled, including The Walking Dead: The Final Season, The Wolf Among Us 2, and a Stranger Things game. The last The Walking Dead season was cancelled with only 2 episodes released, However news is that ‘Skybound Entertainment’ has resurrected the video game series to finish Clementine's story. I Hope we get to see Telltale's back on top one day, the games they made where unique and interesting. This scene from Tales of the Borderlands couldn’t be more appropriate for the situation. If you have never played any of the Telltales games definitely give them a try most of them allow you to play the first ‘episode’ for free.
Take the video game ‘Mercenaries’ and give it a Tom Clancy makeover, That’ll give you Ghost Recon: Wildlands. With an action packed and extremely large and good looking open environment to explore combined with solid stealth gameplay it’ll take a while to get bored of this one. Each location gives you multiple options on how to proceed. Go in stealth, assault, create a distraction, come in from the sky, it is completely up to you, there is in this game a great sense of freedom and a ton of upgrades and gadgets to make use of. There are only two bad points I have found with this game. The driving is atrocious (but forgivable) and the story is a bit ‘thin’ basically your job is to take down a cartel one boss at a time working your way up to the ‘kingpin’. With such a large amount of people to take down the story can get a little muddled up at times but with this type of game all you need to know is where to go and who the target is. A third potential issue with the game, repetitivity. Games nowadays are plagued with it, Ghost Recon does attempt to offer a variety of different missions however there are times you will find yourself playing very similar missions.. (Ask Skyrim or Witcher for tips on not repeating gameplay..) The character and gun customisation is pretty good in the game, it offers a number of different options. Most upgrades can be found and the game unaffected by this however unfortunately there are ‘loot crates’ involved. The co-op and online game modes really are a treat, ever wanted to hunt predator (or predator hunt you) with your friends then go ahead, join each others games, play co-op of go head to head. Overall I would say this game is definitely worth a buy and is one of the better games released this year. If you want a similar alternative play Metal Gear Solid 5, Mercenaries (½) or Just Cause. Let me know what you think of the game, could it be a contender for game of the year? Like, comment, share.
‘Resident Evil’ is Capcom’s best selling game franchise with the first of the series released back in 1996. For me Resident Evil kept on delivering right up to number 4, Number 4 being my favourite, closely followed by number 2 which is receiving a remake. This remake looks great and is due to be released early next year. Games 1-3 used very similar fixed cam mechanics and offered a great zombie survival experience introducing some very memorable characters. Resident evil 4 changed the game entirely with a new over the shoulder cam. The game offers astonishing boss battles, amazing audio and visual presentation and a suspenseful, lengthy storyline that never lets down. (plenty of replay value) After Resident evil 4 the series did start to go downhill. Number 5 for me was a fairly reasonable addition to the series and I did enjoy playing the mercenary’s gamemode, Resident evil 5 was the first to have online gameplay however it was fairly frustrating to actually connect to online games. Resi 5 wasn’t quite what resident evil is meant to be but it wasn’t a terrible game. Resident Evil 6 offered an interesting narrative structure, some amazing cutscenes could really draw you into the storyline, Unfortunately however a game isn’t a game if it is only the cut scenes that are good and a number of them include overly long and rubbish quick time events. The set pieces aren't great and the game loves to take control leading to poorly scripted events. Resident Evil 7 takes a big turn, the style of the game has been completely revamped into a first person VR thriller packed with detail. The atmosphere is intense and the game progresses nicely with little filler. Some sections go drag and the puzzles aren't too great. Overall Resident Evil 7 is a good game/experience but is NOT a resident evil game the story is also quite short and doesn’t leave much replay value. It is more of an experience in VR more than anything. I understand there are some games here t
Despite being released almost 10 years ago Minecraft continues to grow with an estimated 91 million ‘active players’ this year. Over 154 million copies of the game have been sold, making it the second highest-selling game of all time. On average more people play Minecraft per month than the whole population of France, UK, Italy, or South Korea. It isn’t hard to see why Minecraft has been so popular, The game targets such a large audience and is fun to play at any age, it is also available on practically every device that can run it, consoles, phones, pc, you name it. Hell it is like virtual lego, how can you not love it!.. Since the game was first released there have been hundreds of updates bringing tons of new features, The game was made by 1 man alone however Microsoft bought the game back in 2014 for a massive 2.5 billion dollars and it has continued to grow ever since. I personally haven’t played Minecraft properly for some time (at least a couple of years) It would be nice to see what new features the game now boasts. Going back to when I did play it, not taking recent features into account I can happily say it is my favourite building/survival game without a doubt, it is unbelievably addictive, ‘a quick go’ would turn into hours.. Time passes so quickly when playing it due to the amount of ‘stuff’ you can do within it, the possibilities are endless lol. It’ll be interesting to see what happens with Minecraft going forward because as of now it is continuously breaking records.. Even the likes of Fortnite cannot stand up to the number of players Minecraft has. Let me know your thoughts on Minecraft, share your creations, share the post, leave a comment and like the page. :)
What is the worst / most disappointing game you ever played? Now there are tons of bad games out there but when I am asked this question one game in particular immediately springs to mind.. UBIK (Playstation 1).. I got this game when I was a child and when your a child you don’t exactly get a new game every week, if you get a game it has to last you a while cause games are not cheap.. anyway... This game was released by Cryo Interactive in 1998, I picked up this game as a kid, the box looked pretty cool. If I remember right the game was supposedly about managing a team in a blade runner like future, some characters had powers, some guns, the environments where 3d and interactable and the screenshots made the game look like it had similar gameplay to resident evil / dino crisis… Unfortunately it was nothing of the sort, the game was turd. The gameplay was awful, it was so bad in fact the game was unplayable, I gave the game a good chance to grow on me.. I really did try, I don’t even think I could complete the 1st level due to the controls and clunkiness of the game, it was pure, cheap, crap. To this day I feel completely ripped off by this game and the company that made it. The next game I got was Hogs of War.. Yes that game is great :D Let me know what is the worst / most disappointing game you ever played in the comments below. If you have played Ubik before send me a message, If you haven’t then just don’t play it lol… Here is a video showing some gameplay of Ubik.. for your.. Enjoyment?
What started as a Resident Evil game came Devil May Cry. A Capcom hack n slash that delivered a compelling story with arcade like gameplay. The game follows ‘Dante’ who is seeking revenge for the death of his mother and brother. Dante is basically a half-devil, half-human badass that slays demons for fun. When it comes to the setting the game is quite dark/gothic which suits the survival/horror theme the visuals within the series are incredible, the scenery and cutscenes will constantly blow your mind, This said environments are repeated and backtracking is a small issue within some of the games. The game mainly relies on its awesome combat system, heavy metal music takes over and you can reach massive satisfying combos, these combos are scored on how well you perform and how much variety / style you put into them. The controls are smooth and the animations are slick, Boss battles are especially fun. When not in combat you find yourself platforming or solving some sort of puzzle, both of which slow down the game a little too much and can become tedious. In these moments you find yourself just wanting to get to the next battle. If you have never played any of the series I would highly recommend it if you enjoy the likes of God of War, Ninja Gaiden, Bayonetta etc. Have a watch of the video below showing one of my fab scenes from the series and don't forget to leave a like =)
