We have a lot in common: Cognate words
European Journal of Education (SSCI indexed Q2 journal) published by Wiley.
The use of cognates can provide learners with a bridge to the new language, allowing them to make connections between words they already know in their native language and words in the target language, which can lead to faster and more effective language learning.
Additionally, language education through cognates can also promote multilingualism and help foster a more peaceful and tolerant world. This study highlights the potential of cognate awareness to promote peace in the world by emphasizing the commonalities among languages and cultures.
By recognizing the abundance of cognates across different languages, we can reinforce the idea that we are all part of the same human family and share a common linguistic heritage.
