It's SUBVERSIVE SATURDAYS 🎬

HOSTEL II (2007) was a first-time watch for me, and I was PLEASANTLY surprised by how much I enjoyed it and its subversion of even its original. With the men being weak, Sadistic dummies, and the smart decisive women fighting for their lives, along with an EPIC casteation scene, this one comes with a strong recommendation from me! Not to mention the ICONIC Bathory inspired scene 👀 - Kelly

SAIDAN is a Tennessee based band that blends symphonic BM, punk, J rock, and guitar solos, with lyrics about horror movies, Japanese folklore, and more. They even have a song entitled GIRL HELL 1999 (iykyk...). Do they completely reinvent the wheel? No. But are they good at what they do? I think so! In June, we are traversing the world of JAPANESE CYBERPUNK, with "Our Mechanical Mind: TETSUO THE IRON MAN & DEATH POWDER - The Fall of Humanity and the Rise of the Machines".

We will be discussing the loss of identity and the rise of A.I. through these powerful films from the 1980s. A time when the fear of technological advancement was present and a concept that is all too relevant in 2024.

IT'S SUBVERSIVE SATURDAY 🎬

VULGAR (2000) is a surprisingly dark r*ape revenge starring Brian O'Halloran (Clerks Universe). I think Brian is a very underrated actor, and this movie proves his acting chops (well before Clerks 3!). There is nothing funny here with commentary on r*pe culture, trauma, and its after effects. This indie film is one to watch! 💀 -- Kelly
