Roaming Armadillo is an independent film company founded in 2006 by Patrick C. Currently, Roaming Armadillo has branches in Po***ck and Lafayette, Louisiana, as well as in Dallas, Texas. The concept for the company came from Patrick’s love of horror movies and his passion for writing and directing short films. Supported by family and long-time, dedicated friends, he embarked on a journey to make a
film company that would produce high quality independent films on a shoestring budget. While Roaming Armadillo has met with many of the common obstacles and limitations of independent filmmakers, it continues to meet and surpass each challenge, raising the bar for itself with each success. There is so much in a name. When trying to name the company, we took great care to come up with something that was important to us and that we felt people would remember. We did not choose it because we feel that armadillos are particularly cute creatures, nor because of the vicious (and unverified) rumor that the General Manager has an armadillo tattooed on her derriere’. The name "Roaming Armadillo" is something that we knew would stick. Armadillos are tough creatures. Let’s face it; they are a little scary to look at, but once you get to know one, you quickly learn they’re not that monstrous after all (or so we’ve been told). The adjective “roaming” is used because we did not want a name that would permanently tie us to a specific genre. (Plus, the imagery created by the idea of an armadillo roaming around is kind of cool. Don’t lie. Can’t you see one meandering down the road with all its belongings wrapped in a sack and thrown over its shoulder.) Generally, Roaming Armadillo focuses on horror films, particularly the postmodern kinds that have twisted endings that keep people talking long after they are over. However, the company has “roamed” into other areas, as well. In addition to Roaming Armadillo’s award winning horror films such as Last Getaway and The Inherited or its tantalizing short films such as the soon to be completed “Family Night,” Roaming Armadillo has made a documentary highlighting an experimental art program for children in middle school as well as an educational film, “Beyond the Pain,” which is used to help educate and support parents whose children have been sexually abused. Currently, we are in pre-production on a short film called “R,” which confronts the subject of sexual violence in a raw, gritty fashion. But for all you horror fans, don’t worry. We’re in the development stage on our third feature, Dark Forest. And if you thought our earlier films were crazy, then you’re in for a real treat.
