And just like that…it’s a wrap for the 2024 wedding szn for me. Here’s a recap of some of my favorite moments of real people and real weddings with notes I hope will carry to into 2025:
1. Texture, color, and motion blur to draw you into a moment
2. Portfolio or Mood board? 😍 Shifting towards a more timeless style of capturing & editing weddings 🤌🏽
3. First look — No one tells you how little time you have alone with each other on your wedding day. Doing a first look is a great way to incorporate some time alone. It’s always so special and allows you to do the bulk of your photos before the ceremony which frees you up to enjoy & be present for your reception. doing a first look with her brother & dad 🥹
4. Storytelling — The art of noticing non-obvious moments & capturing the magical in-between to build context and tell the full story of a wedding day. Don’t underestimate the power of a good cropped photo.
5. Multi-day events — From Columbus, OH to Detroit, MI w/ & Cory gave me a change in scenery that really pushed me creatively. I hope more couples embrace this concept.
6. Candid moments of anticipation & the goodest boy 🐶
7. Ground floral installations > traditional arch by really adds so much depth without taking away from the scenic views ✨Bonus: They were repurposed later for the reception.
8. Black tie garden wedding & more color please! 😍
9. Reception reveal — Build some time into your timeline to experience a reception reveal. Many couples don’t get to see their space before guests enter and it’s always so special. Highly recommend!
10. First Kiss Dip 👏🏼
11-13. Celebrating more culture & traditions, please! 🫶🏽
14-16, 20. Embrace a little chaos by mixing classic portraits with the rise of wide portraits
17. Courthouse weddings for a more relaxed & intimate vibe
18. Oscar worthy editorial backdrops
19. Direct flash for detail shots + Free 🇵🇸
No one can prepare you for how it fast it goes. How overwhelming or overstimulating it can be. My biggest takeaway is to build in extra time in your timeline to enjoy your wedding day. 🫶🏽
