Pacific FC to Host ‘Celebration of BC Soccer’ at Canadian Championship quarter-final versus TSS Rovers

$5 from each ticket purchased by away support to go back to community-owned League1 BC sides

Langford, BC – (April 26, 2023) – Pacific FC will celebrate soccer in the province as it takes on TSS Rovers of League One BC in an all-BC matchup in the quarter-final of the Canadian Championship in May.

As part of the Celebration of BC soccer, TSS Rover supporters will be able to purchase tickets in the away stands at Starlight Stadium through a special link, with $5 from each ticket purchased going back to their club. Away supporters who cannot make the game in person will have the opportunity to purchase tickets that will subsequently be donated to local charities, with $5 from those purchases also going back to TSS Rovers.

Tickets that include a fundraiser for the TSS Rovers are available here.

TSS Rovers will visit Starlight Stadium on Wednesday, May 11 at 7:30 p.m. in the latest round of the tournament, after beating Valour FC in historic fashion in the preliminary round of Canadian Championship play earlier this month. Pacific earned its way to the quarterfinals by beating Cavalry FC on penalties in the first round of cup play.

The Canadian Championship provides opportunity for teams from leagues across the country to battle for the Voyagers Cup.

“TSS Rovers is the first League One team to defeat higher-level competition in the Canadian Championship, giving us the opportunity to celebrate the sport in the province with a different community of soccer fans,” said Paul Beirne, Managing Director, Pacific FC. “In recognition of the TSS Rovers being a community-owned team, it was important to us to develop ticketing options for this match that give back to the club overall and help support the continued growth of the game in our province.”

In keeping with supporting organizations local to BC, Pacific FC has extended the same offer to Victoria Highlanders and Nanaimo’s Harbourside FC. Teams from throughout the region will also be invited to join the Celebration of BC Soccer, including squads from the Vancouver Island Wave Program, the Lower Island Soccer Association and the Upper Island Soccer Association.

Tickets that include a fundraiser for the Victoria Highlanders are available here.

“This will be a spectacular night for soccer in our province as we host an all BC darby at Starlight Stadium,” said Beirne.

We'd like to share with you a press release from Pacific FC that you might find interesting:

The Victoria Royals and Pacific FC are excited to announce a new joint venture, BEAT VANCOUVER, which will strive to strengthen the link between fans of both clubs on the Island and help benefit the KidSport Greater Victoria charity.

Pacific FC is set to open their 2023 season against the newest Canadian Premier League club, Vancouver FC, providing them a natural rivalry akin to the one between the Royals and their Mainland rivals, the Vancouver Giants.

Both teams will be employing the BEAT VANCOUVER rally cry at their games against their cross-strait rivals this season. The first of the two will be held on Friday, March 4th as the Royals take on the Giants in the Island Bowl II, followed by Pacific FC’s season opener against Vancouver FC on Saturday, April 15th at Starlight Stadium.

"The Royals are excited to partner with Pacific FC in these great rivalry games,” said Royals General Manager and Head Coach Dan Price. “The passion within the games and in the stands when Victoria and Vancouver compete against each other is special. What a great opportunity to watch these elite athletes perform in their respective sports and to support access to youth sports in the process."

Additionally, both the Royals and PFC will be selling BEAT VANCOUVER-branded t-shirts (in blue for the Royals and purple for the Tridents) in their team stores this year for $25 each, alongside a ticket and shirt bundle, with proceeds from each sale going to benefit KidSport Greater Victoria, which supports access to youth sports in the Greater Victoria region.

“We are happy to join forces with the Victoria Royals to show solidarity in our competitiveness representing the island,” said James Merriman, Head Coach, Pacific FC. “This is an opportunity for Island sports fans to come out to two different games to support our teams, while also supporting a great cause that will give back to our community.”

The Royals will be pulling out all the stops for their Island Bowl II matchup against the Giants on March 4, turning the Royals Court area at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre’s gate one into a tailgate and fanfest area, complete with a co-branded PFC & Royals BEAT VANCOUVER theme and a live DJ. Tickets for the game are available at selectyourtickets.com.

Fans will also have the unique opportunity to enjoy a meet and greet session with their favourite Pacific FC players as well as with both teams' mascots, Marty the Marmot and Stewie the Starfish. Royals players will attend Starlight Stadium for a meet-and-greet in April.

Following the pre-game festivities, fans can cheer on the Royals from the Vizzy Fan Section, which will be decked out in a BEAT VANCOUVER theme. Specially-priced $5 beers will also be on sale at the concession throughout the evening.

“KidSport Greater Victoria is a huge fan of collaboration and teamwork – skills honed through sport,” said Jill Shaw, executive director, KidSport Greater Victoria. “This initiative is such a great example of organizations working together to bring together and benefit the community, and we’re proud and grateful to be a recipient of funds raised through this project.”

The CPL and PFA Canada have released a joint statement:

CANADIAN PREMIER LEAGUE AND THE PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALLERS ASSOCIATION OF CANADA JOINT STATEMENT

Toronto, ON – (December 20, 2022) – The Canadian Premier League (“CPL”) and the Professional Footballers Association of Canada (“PFA Canada”) announce that the CPL has granted voluntary recognition to PFA Canada to represent professional soccer players under contract to CPL teams, following a secret ballot vote by players.

The on-line vote was conducted between December 15 and December 19. All players under contract to CPL clubs were given the opportunity to cast a vote. The vote was conducted by an arm’s-length, third-party provider specializing in online voting.

A majority of ballots cast by the players voted in favour of PFA Canada representing the players as their bargaining agent.

Mark Noonan, Commissioner, CPL and Marco Carducci, President, PFA Canada, who both recently took on their respective roles, agreed to give players a process to freely express their wishes as to representation in collective bargaining.

“We respect the outcome of the vote of the players in the CPL and their desire to be represented by PFA Canada,” said Mark Noonan, Commissioner, CPL. “We look forward to working with PFA Canada to negotiate a first collective agreement that will serve as a win-win for both the players and the League. We have every hope that we can work together collectively and collaboratively to grow the CPL and the sport of soccer in Canada for all stakeholders.”

Marco Carducci, President of PFA Canada, released the following statement:

“Since bringing CPL players together through PFA Canada, we’ve worked hard to amplify players’ demand for meaningful input and to make professional football in Canada a viable career choice. We have no doubt that by working with the CPL through collective bargaining, we’ll produce an even stronger relationship between players and the League and further establish Canada’s first division as a premier Concacaf destination competition that continues to grow, as does Canadian’s desire for top-flight football.”

New press release from Pacific FC:

Retired Captain Jamar Dixon Takes Leadership Role with Pacific FC

Langford, BC November 8, 2022 – Pacific FC today announces that former captain Jamar Dixon will join the club’s front office as Manager of Football and Player Development.

Dixon’s role will include supporting the first team as well as working to develop local youth players through the Vancouver Island Wave program.

“Pacific FC has been such a big part of my life and I am excited to continue building the culture and squad, while implementing some of my own ideas from a different perspective,” said Dixon. “Winning the championship last year showed how capable we are, and I look forward to bringing that positive energy to the front office, first team and our youth academy."

Dixon, 33, made 62 appearances for Pacific FC in all competitions, serving as captain for two seasons, and a 2021 CPL Champion. He was capped three times by the Canadian Men’s National Team during his playing career.

“Jamar is passionate about football in Canada and in particular about creating opportunities for young people,” said Paul Beirne, Managing Director, Pacific FC. “As a young footballer he had to leave the country to pursue his dreams. He recognizes the opportunity to keep talent on home soil thanks to the development of the Canadian Premier League and will help steward that initiative for our club going forward.”

A natural role model to his peers and younger players, Dixon will lean on the experience and skills he honed as Pacific’s captain, and as a youth coach for under-14 and under-16 teams in the Wave program, in transitioning to his new role.

“I have a long history with Jamar from playing together as teammates to coaching him as our club captain in his last season,” said James Merriman, Head Coach, Pacific FC. “He retires as a CPL Champion and has great experiences to share with our players and the youth developing in our organization. We are focused on building our culture at this club and Jamar has the values that are important for our continued growth.”

Stay tuned to pacificfc.ca and follow the club on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook for the latest news.

18/09/2022

We had a great night out at Starlight Stadium tonight to watch some Vancouver Island Soccer League Division 1 action between the Victoria Highlanders FC and Lakehill FC.

Lakehill opened up the scoring early in the first half after converting a penalty kick. VHFC came back with a goal in regular play leaving the game tied at 1 all at the end of the first half.

In the second half Lakehill came back with a vengeance and scored 5 goals. The last goal of the night went to the Highlanders, as a tackle in the box thwarted a clear goal scoring opportunity which sent Lakehill down a man after the official showed his red card. The Highlanders picked up a penalty goal but it wasn't enough for the home team.

Final score: Victoria Highlanders FC 2, Lakehill FC 6.

Div 1 VISL action at Starlight Stadium between the Victoria Highlanders FC and Lakehill FC

04/09/2022

Not the best result on the pitch for Pacific FC today, but at least the Supporters Section at Starlight Stadium had a good time, with suspended PFC player Nathan Mavila on drums.

24/08/2022

Pacific FC's run in the CONCACAF League certainly had its memorable moments. The goal tonight was one of them.
