What can possibly be said about this Titan. He was a creative genius & powerhouse of a North Star. From Ray Charles to Frank Sinatra to Michael Jackson to many more in between along with an Emmy, a Tony, 7 Oscar nominations, 79 Grammy nominations & 28 wins earned for himself and more for others he produced. The word, legend almost seems too small for someone who influence so many while he shaped and re-shaped music and entertainment for decades. There are far too many words to describe the true impact or importance this man had on the music, film or television industries. Suffice to say there will never be another like him. He will be missed.

Rest in Power Quincy Jones.

We are losing too many of our Character Actors. From “Young Frankenstein” or “Tootise” to “Oh, God!” to one of my all time favorites, “Close Encounters of Third Kind”, she elevated every film. Be it her dramatic turns or her distinctive comedic timing, she stole every scene working opposite some Hollywoods iconic core of Actors and for a slew of A-list Directors. Growing up as an avid fan of 70’s and 80’s cinema she will always be a legend. Godspeed Teri Garr.

As I collect more years behind me than in front, each day becomes more valuable. Depending on the day, I’m not sure if I’m a young old man or an old young man. What I am though, is thankful and deep-down excited about what lay ahead. My sincere thanks to everyone for the posts, texts, emails, calls & more than several handshakes & hugs throughout the day. Receiving such born-day good wishes along with so many kind words from family & friends, and colleagues, both seasoned & new, fills me with immeasurable gratitude. Thanks all - it’s very much appreciated. 🙏🏼

I’m a few days late noting this milestone, but my favorite record of all time was released 40 years ago this month. This was the very first CD I ever bought. In fact, I bought it three weeks before I could afford to buy the CD player to play it in. I also had to have it on cassette tape to bring with me several months later to play on my Walkman while traipsing across northern France against the cold, misty-gray backdrop of Mont Saint-Michel and Normandy beach. Every experience of that time was punctuated by the moody tunes of this personal masterpiece & burrowed into the soul of my musical DNA from teenager to adulthood. The title track has been my favorite song for decades and still holds the distinction to this day of being a Time Machine I often visit. I can’t hear that tune without being enveloped in the sites, sounds, joys & heartaches of 1984 and beyond. Thanks fellas for such a magnificent soundtrack.

From groundbreaking series like “Maude” and “Good Times” to “Roots”, and “The Rockford Files”, to countless series and films throughout the 70’s and beyond, he was one of our all-time great character actors. By far my two favorites are his role as Cleo McDowell in “Coming to America” and as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, Admiral Percy Fitzwallace in “The West Wing “. He stole every scene and further elevated a Hall of Fame series. His presence was as unique as it was indelible. He was truly one of a kind and will be greatly, greatly missed. Godspeed .

As soon as I got my drivers license (and maybe a couple times before) I spent a many a summer afternoon driving into Atlanta with my friends to catch a Braves game. Those were lean years when the Braves were lousy and the stadium was often sparsely filled. In those days we could buy one of the cheap seats then pretty much sit anywhere you wanted after an inning or two. Another benefit was picking games where baseball legends were still playing, but nearing retirement. I’m glad to say I got to see him play several times, and though he was very late in his career, he still played with the same competitive fierceness & love of the game he always had. Indeed those were the days - thanks for the memories Charlie Hussle. Godspeed . ⚾️

PS shame on you - he should’ve been in the Hall of Fame long ago.
