Meet your community volunteers
It’s a well-known fact that geocaching is a community-based game. After all, what would the game be without creative cache owners and the engaged cachers who log their finds? Another vital aspect of the game is the collection of geocaching community volunteers who dedicate their time, passion, and talent to support the worldwide geocaching community. Here’s a brief introduction to three volunteers you might have seen in your community!

A postcard from our friends at the halfway point of Cosmic Quest
We’re halfway through Cosmic Quest, and so far, the global geocaching community has generated over 7,500,000 units of fuel - an impressive achievement! However, to reach the goal of 15 million units of fuel, we need to keep up the momentum. Let’s make the most of these remaining weeks in August by finding as many geocaches as possible to fuel up the spaceship! Our friends are also busy geocaching this month and recently sent us a postcard from their latest geocache find. Last week’s postcard was GC11JM6 in Germany. Can you guess where this new postcard is from? Share your guess on the blog!

Do you live in South Australia? Did you know that the city of Charles Sturt was into Geocaching???

Geocaching is a great way to explore the parks and places in Charles Sturt. There are more than 200 caches within a 6 kilometre radius of the Charles Sturt Civic Centre at Woodville. Many are designed for families to find together.

Blog: Midwest Geobash Reflections - It's bash baby!

Midwest Geobash 2024, the 20th birthday of MWGB shenanigans, just wrapped up and boy was it a doozy. And I don't just mean because of all the Adventure Lab stages (counting at over 260 on a fresh gameboard!).

The organizing committee as always does a bang up job, but this year was special, and the camping numbers and attendance count reflected that fact. They are all well deserving of a hardy round of applause and enthusiastic congratulations!

These are the events - mega events (and greater) - that truly help to encourage and grow the geocaching community, and even introduce newcomers to the hobby and the vast array of fun and experiences it provides. Even if events aren't your thing, that's fine, but it really is hard not to be social and enjoy meeting fellow like-minded folk from all over the lands. And I'm an introvert!

Ever wondered what caching with kids whilst travelling Australia is like?

Have a look below...

I first discovered geocaching as the secret sauce to making road trips more exciting on a long road trip across Australia with the kids. Rather than tell them we were about to embark on a 4,000 km long journey from the east coast to the west coast of Australia, I told them we would be playing the world’s largest treasure-hunting game.

Things to know about geocache maintenance

It is often said that the journey is the reward, but geocachers may argue that a journey is even more rewarding when it ends with a find rather than a DNF! Regular maintenance is an important (and required) way to ensure that your geocache is a reward for those who seek it. If a cache falls into disrepair, then a reviewer may take action via the sweeping* process.

* Sweeping describes the action reviewers take on caches with maintenance issues. Some regions have specific reviewers who do this, while other reviewers do it as part of their normal reviewing.

We asked community volunteer reviewers what they want you to know about cache maintenance and sweeping. Here are some of the top items.....

Exploring History and Stories at Waldviertel Geschichte und Geschichten Mega-Event in Horn, Austria 🇦🇹

Geocaching HQ Lackeys attend dozens of Mega and Giga-Events around the world–shaking hands, frog feet, and friendly paws, sharing stories of adventures and geocaching! Geocaching HQ’s nykkole is the Lead, Senior Product Manager for the Mobile Team. She recently traveled to Austria to attend the Waldviertel Geschichte und Geschichten🌲📜📖 Mega-Event (GCA501G). Here’s her trip summary.

The event took place on June 8 and 9, and while the weather forecast predicted thunderstorms, the weather frogs must have been out geocaching because we saw only sunshine all weekend long. Horn, a cozy small town near Vienna, was the perfect setting for the Mega–while Adventure Labs guided us through town and history, geocaches allowed us to explore the nearby trails 👣
