Shared • Time seems to creep in the dark, grey, cold, miserable bucket of suck called winter. ❄️
The only good news is I haven’t seen a mosquito in months and I can keep my beer (or wine) cold on my back deck. 🍺

For me, listening to Stick Figure, burning my favorite beach or tropical scented candle, and wearing my favorite Sunshine + Saltwater tee and Billabong flannel help me get through my winter blues.

Surround yourself with things, sounds, and smells that remind you of the beach - it really does help make you feel a little closer to that place you love and can’t wait to get back to.

The BEST PART OF WINTER - when it’s over!! Just 58 more dark, grey, miserable days and SPRING will be here!!

I am so thankful that I was able to work with this amazing rescue and donate my time + talent to help so many animals in need like Percy here. The unfortunate truth of owning and running a dog rescue.
Running a dog rescue is really hard.

What they don’t tell you is that it can cause severe stress and anxiety, and drains you mentally to the point of depression in even the most laid-back people.

People will talk about you, compare you to others, use you, they will view you as a service and not a person anymore.
Friends and family will expect favor’s and people will value you and your hard work less than a big chain store.

You have to worry about if you forget to email/message someone back, are they going to think it was on purpose? Did you disappoint them? Will they hold that against you? When in reality you just can’t get to everyone’s messages and emails.

Starting up and running a successful dog rescue puts incredible strain on personal lives and relationships, many of which fail because there is just often no work-life balance. All whilst being a parent, a husband or a wife, family support, friend...

There’s a reason you don’t see many people succeed in dog rescue after 5-10 years. If they are successful they are overwhelmed. It takes a toll. It’s freaking exhausting. Especially the past couple of years when so much has been out of our control.

Here’s a small reminder that we are just normal people with hectic lives. Be kind, be patient, support small dog rescues …….and hopefully more of us will stick around!

Hi everyone.
We have decided to close WAAAG. Thank you all so much for your generosity and support over the last 11 years. Together, we have helped hundreds of dogs and cats get out of overcrowded shelters and into safe and loving homes. And when we were able, we also helped other animals like cows, pigs, goats, horses and sheep find homes.
We do still have 6 cats at waaag. For The Cat’s Sake is helping us place the family of 3 that we’ve had for over a year. Socks, Finn and Marcie will stay together, they are going to a barn with a heated tack room. I will write separate posts for our recent intakes, 3 kitties from a man that is losing his home. 2 of the cats are prior WAAAG kitties.
We have reached out to other shelters/rescues to pass on our 3 cabins, as well as our supplies. For the Cat’s Sake is going to take the cat cabin.
I’ve been struggling with the words for this post because of what it means and what it feels like. There are a few reasons for closing, but the biggest reason is that I am emotionally and physically exhausted. The last 11 years have been absolutely amazing, but they have taken their toll on my heart, mind and body. It’s time for me to focus more on my health and my family.
Thank you so much to everyone made the journey with WAAAG by volunteering their time, donating, fostering and adopting.

I know... I know... some of you hate the F💣 and I agree it certainly isn't appropriate in numerous settings.
But those of you who know me - know that I love it.
It motivates me. It's helped me get through some of the most awful moments in my life. It makes me laugh. But most of all it f*cking motivates me - in all areas of my life.

So of course this book is perfect for me. To motivate me and to remember to believe in myself, collaborate, ask for help, trust my gut, take the criticism, embrace chaos and change, think about all the possibilities... I of course will NEVER stay up all night - F*CK that!! 🤣 😴

Most rescues and shelters are full and struggling. A lot of the animals that were adopted during the height of the pandemic are now getting returned. With all those animals being returned and the normal intake of animals these organizations are overwhelmed!!!

What can you do to help? ADOPT - if you are truly ready and willing to take on the responsibly for the life of a pet - which includes many expenses like food, vet care and more - then visit your local rescue or shelter and save a life!!
Not ready to adopt - you can FOSTER - most of these organizations need FOSTER FAMILIES - contact one near you to see about becoming a foster.
And if you aren't able to do either of those a donation - no matter how small - can help care for all of these animals - vet and medical bills and feeding them takes continued funds.

Go to Creator Studio > Tools > Post Testing.
