When we found a media request from ABC Action News in our inbox, we nearly fell off our chairs! WFTS Producer, Jillian Ramos, is doing a series on Lakeland, spotlighting the growing creative community. Jillian found us online, loved what she saw, and wanted to feature us.

We spent a lovely morning at our home chatting with Jillian and her crew (thank you, Tony and Jason for getting our best sides) about our journey with Hocus Pocus Comics, and how we fit into the Lakeland indie scene. We talked about our decision to start the company, and where we wanted to go with our reimagining of classics through the medium of graphic novels. We also discussed our love for education and the recent increase in graphic novels being used in classrooms as legit curriculum.

The feature will drop on May 10th--with three segments being aired throughout the day. As soon as we get specific times, we'll let you know. Thanks for reading!

Congratulations to our friend, , on his new position as Editor of . It is well-deserved. His first novel, LAKE LIFE, displays his dazzling talent as a writer. In fact, we enjoyed it so much that we asked him to write a blurb for the third and final volume of The Imaginary Voyages of Edgar Allan Poe. Thankfully, he agreed. The Spring 2024 issue of THE FLORIDA REVIEW is his first issue as Editor, and it looks gorgeous. It will debut at AWP next week, and it will also be available on the magazine website. Be sure to pick up a copy. We know we will!

Anyone else out there enjoying Season Three of the series, Lupin? The show is loosely based on the 1907 book series, The Extraordinary Adventures of Arsene Lupin, by Maurice Leblanc. Arsene is the French counterpart to Sherlock Holmes, and while we are a bit disappointed that the show is not a period piece, this series is cleverly unique in its approach to the source material.

While we were doing some investigating on the Lupin series, we noticed that .macpherson's first iteration of our Edgar Allan Poe trilogy, The Surreal Adventures of Edgar Allan Poo, published by Image Comics in 2007, caused a buzz and garnered Dwight nominations for the and Eagle Awards. It was interesting to find out that this graphic novel is amongst a “Customers also viewed” item on Maurice Lupin’s page. The Imaginary Voyages of Edgar Allan Poe has come a long way from the outhouse, and we hope it will be around just as long as Leblanc’s beloved tales of the Gentleman-Burglar.

This is the time of year when we hunker down and pull back. We say no more than we say yes. We focus more on spending time with loved ones and recharging our creative batteries. The TV gets turned off and the Old-Time Radio gets turned up. Business files get cleaned out, old paperwork gathered for shredding, and our inclination for wanting to be relevant on the rapidly changing platforms of social media is no longer a preference, but an afterthought to the importance of living in the moment. Not documenting it, just living it.

We hope you have a wonderful season of thanks and a gloriously magnificent season of Christmas. Even when it comes with pain as we mourn those who will not be able to spend it with us anymore, we rejoice in the hope that we will one day meet them again.

One of the most challenging aspects of being an independent publisher is dealing with crazy schedules. You may want your project to be completed by a certain timeframe, but there are many variables that go into getting a book out there.

 We're beyond thrilled that our Poe trilogy is complete, and that is one journey we continue to marvel at with so many life situations involved. It is a story that saw its first iteration over ten years ago, and we still have many stories for the inhabitants of Terra Somnium to tell. But that will require a lot of logistics to manage—not to mention getting all the stories from our heads onto paper! Thank you very much for all your support as we are deep in this season of “projects in the works." Some we will talk about soon, others we can’t reveal... YET. 

If you're local, be sure to stop by 's Spooky Halloween event tomorrow, 11/28, where we will be signing and selling books from 10AM – 2PM. There will be candy, stories, and high strangeness!

IN MEMORIAM KEITH GIFFEN: The comics world has lost another legend. This prolific writer and artist has influenced SO many creators and readers over the years. He leaves behind a treasure trove of comic work as his legacy in the industry.

I first became aware of Keith's work in the pages of Justice League International, which he co-created and co-wrote with J.M. DeMatteis (another legend). It was hilarious. Anytime I saw his name on a cover, I knew I was going to get an entertaining story.

Our sincere condolences to Keith's family and friends. He is gone, but won't be forgotten.

Back to where it all began! It will be a full circle moment when HP Comics makes an appearance at Clearwater Comic-Con on Saturday, March 4th. .macpherson and will be selling and signing books from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and Dwight will also be a member of a panel discussing the writing process for comics. This will be a homecoming for Dwight, as Clearwater is where his comic making adventure began. We would love for you to join us for this free family-friendly event. Hope to see YOU there!

The Inklings: J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, Charles Williams, Owen Barfield, and other writers. This legendary group of literary luminaries met together for nearly two decades to discuss literature--particularly their own works. The members were a great sounding board for one another, giving honest feedback, criticism, and recommendations. We are still reading their work to this day.

When we first heard of Inklings Book Shoppe, we looked at one another and exclaimed, "Very cool! Named after Tolkien's and Lewis' reading group." And when we spoke to the owner of the shop, he was very quick to acknowledge that his store was indeed named after the beloved group of writers.

We will be guests at Inklings Book Shoppe on Saturday, October 29th, for their Indie Author event. The fun starts at noon! Our horror graphic novel, ELEVATOR, is already available for purchase there, so feel free to grab a copy and get it signed for your spooky Halloween reading! 🎃👹

Sometimes the planned PR blitz about your book release takes a backseat to real life. Any author will tell you that the most important day of their lives is book release day. Volume 3 of The Imaginary Voyages of Edgar Allan Poe released on September 8th. But we've had other things on our mind the past five days.

Dwight had a medical scare that saw us going to two ERs, and, five tests later, we are on the path to wellness-- just not quite there yet. Most of it was hereditary issues coming to the forefront, and he will be on the mend soon.

Despite this setback, we managed to get all of the digital copies out to our amazing Kickstarter supporters, and you can now order all three issues of this trilogy on Amazon Home, and for indie bookstore friends, you can order through Ingram Distribution. We are so thrilled to finally be able to tell the complete story of Poe, Irving Rat, Bloodclaw, Nevermore The Raven King, and Terence Crab. We hope you enjoy it as much as we did creating this world. One of our stretch goals for The Imaginary Voyages of Edgar Allan Poe Kickstarter campaign was to collect the webcomic, Terra Somnium, into print form. We wanted to be able to bring this prequel of sorts to light, and our supporters helped make that happen!

Final edits are complete on our prequel companion to The Imaginary Voyages of Edgar Allan Poe: TERRA SOMNIUM!
Our incredible supporters on Kickstarter helped us crush the stretch goal to get this book printed for the first time and we can't wait to include them in our fulfillment packages. B

Good Morning, Monday! I can't even begin to express how excited I am to read this book:
The Trial of Lotta Rae, by Siobhan MacGowan.

As I mentioned in the video on Instagram, the minute I saw this book come up on Google, my mind went back to that night in Dublin-- to that intimate party full of music, fireplaces, good port, lashing rain, and storytelling. I was captivated by Siobhan's voice, and how she seamlessly went from one story to the next. For any of you Pogues fans out there, this family is a special family of outrageous geniuses, so I am not surprised that Siobhan would write a book! Local independent bookstores need to have this novel in their stores!

Halloween. Crime. A search for justice. I'll definitely be reviewing this one on the Gold Bug Gazette!

We had a wonderful evening at Destroyer Media and Marketing LLC's Polk at Nite event at Polk Museum of Art. The Rodin: Contemplations and Dreams exhibit was breathtaking! As we strolled through a substantial collection of Auguste Rodin's work, we couldn't help but think that without the love and vision of patrons (like Iris and B. Gerald Cantor) this type of exhibit would never be seen by the average person. Patrons are extremely important to the arts, and we know that personally. We are forever grateful to the patrons that support HP Comics! Thank you for believing in us! ♥️
