Most people don't realize how deeply sleep deprivation—especially when chronic—hurts their emotional well being, affecting their mental health, their outlook and performance, and their relationships. https://thesleepdoctor.com/2018/05/01/how-sleep-deprivation-hurts-your-emotional-health/

I don’t need to tell you that lack of sleep makes you testy, irritable, and short-tempered. We all know, through experience, how sleep deprivation puts us on a short fuse. Still, like with the cognitive

"Harnessing neuroplasticity as an adult does require a little extra effort and specific circumstances, but it can be done. What you pay attention to, what you think, feel, and want, and how you react and behave all physically shape your brain. The point is you can intentionally change your brain." https://thebestbrainpossible.com/brain-neuroplasticity-depression-anxiety-mind/?fbclid=IwAR0L4mD0NXvjNJoLAuoDBHeHnWY5aUyFCYHiSG93fOrwMEPrbhSuLRgfJyI

Every minute of every day, your brain is literally changing its physical form and function in response to your experiences, behaviors, and even your thoughts through a process known as neuroplasticity. Here's how to use that to help you.

Lately I’ve been working pretty long hours. Most weeks, I spend my days working from home — thinking, writing, and trying to remember to unmute my Zoom mic before I start talking. By the end of the day, when I finally close my laptop, my brain is fried. Most nights I’m so

Are you a compassionate leader? Empathy and compassion are similar but they are not the same thing. Read this to see where you land on the empathy/compassion scale. https://www.betterup.com/blog/compassion-vs-empathy?hs_amp=true

“People who try hard to fit in end up frustrated. They don’t know who they are because they’ve spent their whole lives listening to others. That’s the recipe for an identity crisis. You can avoid that fate by not caring about what others think.” https://link.medium.com/aOuiiM5jllb

The way I see it, you have two options for going about the way you live. You can fit in, taking the path that’s been laid out by others…

It’s only natural to feel stressed from time to time. When we do, it’s important to address the feeling head-on. When we ignore our bodies’ signs that tell us to slow down, our stress can build up and eventually escalate, which can lead to burnout. https://thriveglobal-com.cdn.ampproject.org/c/s/thriveglobal.com/stories/signs-your-body-tells-you-to-slow-down-stress-signals/amp/

A recent article in the New York Times, in their series “A year of living better,” says that most of us have what they call an “empathy deficit.” We are surrounded by people who are just like us, similar in the ways we vote, earn money, spend money, pursue education, and worship, for example. Such a homogeneous social circle is the root of our biggest problems, the article proclaims. The good news? Empathy is something that can be developed. https://link.medium.com/16ZVABwvUkb

At work, effective listening means fewer errors and less wasted time. At home, it helps develop resourceful, self-reliant kids who can solve their own problems. Listening builds friendships and careers. https://medium.com/psych-news/5-ways-to-become-a-better-listener-95b0c64287f2

A survey of 7,500 full-time employees by Gallup found the top five reasons for burnout are: (1) Unfair treatment at work, (2) Unmanageable workload, (3) Lack of role clarity, (4) Lack of communication and support from their manager, and (5) Unreasonable time pressure. The list above clearly demonstrates that the root causes of burnout do not really lie with the individual and that they can be averted — if only leadership started their prevention strategies much further upstream. https://hbr-org.cdn.ampproject.org/c/s/hbr.org/amp/2019/12/burnout-is-about-your-workplace-not-your-people

Leaders create the conditions that lead to burnout — or prevent it.
