The Beat Goes On East Devon Radio is a local radio station operating from Exmouth, Devon UK and covers the East Devon and Exeter area. Jump right in!

It is available locally on 106.4 FM and online via www.bayfm.co.uk or via streaming and applications like TuneIn radio. The Beat Goes On happens every Sunday afternoon from 2 - 4pm British time (GMT/BST depending on time of year). The music policy for the show is eclectic and varied, but is rooted in the music of the 50s/60s - rock/pop/folk/psych/blues/r&b are the staples, and I often do 'specials' featuring a major artist or band, but I always try to include the unusual as well as the familiar.

Chris Barker makes these collages every year of those we lost. Here is 2023… As he said ..”The list is sadly constantly evolving “ See who is where in diagram below. 💔🥲💔

I’m sure there are several individuals not there…. Can’t expect to see the most recent. It wasn’t created long enough ago to include all that have past on….

First weekend at home when I’m not thinking about a show this afternoon. Oh well, I’ll have to get on with the decorating!

06/11/2023

I have had several messages about the show. Regrettably, the Beat no longer Goes On after a decision was made to cancel it. Thank you all for your support and encouragement over the 10+ years I have attempted to brighten up your Sunday afternoons with my favourite music - I have loved every minute of it and will miss you all terribly. I am still presenting the Gig Guide on Wednesday evening where I share my love of live music….and play some pretty decent tracks too! Cheers, Nigel.

I had the great pleasure of interviewing Paul Carrack last week. Probably best known for his hits with Mike & the Mechanics (Over My Shoulder, The Living Years etc), Paul also had hits with Squeeze as well as Ace (How Long), and played on 3 Roxy Music albums, many of Nick Lowe' 80s LPs, and has toured with Eric Clapton, Ringo Starr and many others. He has a terrific new album out and is touring soon. A fascinating chat, you can hear it on my Gig Guide show on Wednesday evening.

Sad to this news today. Of course, I will be playing several PH tracks on my next show….Shine on brightly Gary.

With the deepest regret we must announce the death on 19 February 2022 of Gary Brooker MBE, singer, pianist and composer of Procol Harum, and a brightly-shining, irreplaceable light in the music industry. Aged 76, he had been receiving treatment for cancer, but died peacefully at home.

Just a reminder that my Sunday show has now shifted forward an hour for the time being and will start at 1pm GMT rather than 2pm.

Allied to a slight slimming down of the number of shows, this ensures we have an hour between programmes to further tighten our anti virus precuations at this time and protect our presenters and their families.

See ya later!

A listener comment last week about Whole Lotta Love being a theme for Top Of the Pops made me wonder what other tunes had been used over the years - turns out there were surprisingly few considering how long the the show ran for, but I played those and also some that were used on Ready, Steady, Go! back in the 60s. Birthdays this week included Paul Young, Sade and Suggs, and Sunday was the 52nd anniversary of the release of the Yellow Submarine soundtrack album. If you've never seen it then you really must - a psychedelic treat without the bother of taking anything!

After the show yesterday we learned of the death of Phil Spector. I will be playing some of his productions next Sunday.

I had a lot of positive feedback on my latest show. I'm never quite sure why it is that some shows seem to 'hit the spot', but this seems to have done! Maybe it is the extraordinary times we are living through that makes music all the more powerful....or maybe they were just good tunes this week!😀
