What makes a great DJ.

While some argue only real DJ’s are the ones that stand behind vinyl turntables, others ignite rooms with digital media players, sync included. Putting aside the format debates, it’s what comes out the speakers that truly counts and how it’s presented.

A good DJ can for that moment in time can unite the whole room with the feeling of love and unity. It’s about reading the room, feeling the mood, watching and connecting with peoples emotions and expressions using your musical knowledge placing the right musical tool at the right time in order to direct everyone to a central peaceful spiritual place. Its that rush of adrenalin when you eventually feel you’ve made that central connection and then the journey begins focusing on observing those expressions, feelings and emotions along with the energy in the room that tells you when to take the musical journey in another direction to create an adventure/journey on the dance floor as they head into the unknown. It’s the reason many of us go clubbing, a joint therapy session, a release from the hectic noisy world outside and for that short period of time to feel at peace and unity.

The format becomes irrelevant, most people have no clue what or how the DJ is playing, but feel the powerful connection once the DJ resonates with the dance floor via music as they get to work and this applies to wedding DJ’s through to rave DJ’s.
As many find out, it’s a lot harder than it seems, a skill that takes years learn.

To my dying day, I will continue to play out Faithless classics like Insomnia, God Is A DJ, Music Matters and more at my DJ gigs. Thanks for the memories Maxi, gone but your legacy will live on with your music forever. You defined an era and inspired an entire generation of Dance music fans that are eternally grateful to you, Sister Bliss & Rollo for the joy that you brought. RIP.

So it finally looks like the DJ entertainment business can open up for Weddings, Parties and Corporate events (I'll believe it when I see it). So if venues are finally allowed to allow a DJ and provide a Dancefloor for more than 30 people then it looks like we can "party like never before".
