13 Lobo. Otra variante del toro de Gabriel Alvarez con un interesante cambio de color en el cuerpo. No me gusta la cabeza que queda muy rígida y mira hacia abajo.

12 Lagarto. Un diseño distinto a todo lo que había hecho hasta entonces, con un aspecto raro pero interesante. Ideal para hacerlo en el metro con los antiguos billetes rectangulares.

12. Lizard. A design different from anything I had done until then, with a strange but interesting look. Perfect for folding on the subway using the old rectangular tickets.

11 Cristo. En su momento esta figura me pareció un hito en mis diseños, un Cristo crucificado, todo del mismo papel. Pese a mis intentos, nunca conseguí un modelo que me gustara pero pese a ello logró meterse en las primeras hojas del cuadernillo. En el fondo sabía de sus deficiencias y una nueva versión vería la luz posteriormente en el mismo cuaderno.

11. Christ. At the time, this figure felt like a milestone in my designs — a crucified Christ, all made from the same sheet of paper. Despite my attempts, I never managed to create a version I truly liked, but even so, it made it into the first pages of the booklet. Deep down, I was aware of its flaws, and a new version would later see the light in the same booklet.

10 Mantis religiosa. Mi primer insecto y el estreno de una base que utilicé bastante en modelos posteriores. El modelo merece que lo vuelva a plegar con mejor papel, el de la foto es el original con papel de seda y se nota el paso del tiempo. Para ser un insecto es sorprendentemente sencillo de plegar, no da pereza… que no es poco mérito. En aquel momento no conocía los plegados hundidos que inundan los diseños de insectos actuales.

10. Praying Mantis. My first insect — and the debut of a base I used quite a lot in later models. This one deserves to be refolded with better paper; the one in the photo is the original, made with tissue paper, and time has definitely taken its toll. For an insect, it’s surprisingly simple to fold — it doesn’t feel like a chore… which is quite an achievement. Back then, I wasn’t yet familiar with the sunk folds that dominate modern insect designs.

9 Lagartija. De todas las variantes que hice del monicaco de Luis Bas esta lagartija es de la que me siento más orgulloso. Me gusta mucho, tanto que la rediagramé hace poco y conseguí publicarla en el Pajarita extra 2021. El modelo de la foto es de la época del diseño, con papel metalizado recubierto con seda.

9. Lizard. Of all the variations I made from Luis Bas's "monicaco," this lizard is the one I’m most proud of. I really like it — so much that I recently rediagrammed it and managed to get it published in Pajarita Extra 2021. The model in the photo is from the time of the original design, folded from metallic paper covered with silk.

8 Cocodrilo. Y al octavo diseño apareció otra variante, esta vez del galápago de Juan Gimeno. Una base preciosa y con buen aprovechamiento del papel. Doblando el modelo para estas publicaciones he visto la posibilidad de usar un cuadrado para hacerlo (el modelo parte de un rectángulo) y quizá dotar a la boca del grosor que le falta.

8. Crocodile. And by the eighth design, another variation appeared — this time based on Juan Gimeno’s terrapin. A beautiful base that makes excellent use of the paper. While folding the model for these posts, I noticed the possibility of using a square instead (the original model starts from a rectangle), and perhaps giving the mouth the thickness it currently lacks.

7 Escarabajo. Una variante más del incombustible toro de Gabriel Alvarez. Esta vez para hacer un insecto. Mirando el resultado final nadie diría que viene de esa base pero así es de flexible. Es una de las razones por las que me encanta este modelo.

7. Beetle. One more variation of Gabriel Alvarez’s indestructible bull — this time to create an insect. Looking at the final result, no one would guess it comes from that base, but that’s how flexible it is. It’s one of the reasons I love this model.

6 Rata. Otro modelo más basado en el monicaco de Luis Bas, y van 3… Igual que el anterior, el guepardo, la rata es un diseño demasiado forzado. El modelo de la foto es de la época, allá por los años 90 y usa papel metalizado cubierto con seda.

6. Rat. This is another model based on the "monicaco" by Luis Bas—that makes three so far! ust like the previous one, the cheetah, the rat is a design that feels too forced. The model in the photo is from that time, back in the 90s, and is folded from metallic paper covered with silk.

5 Guepardo. La base del monicaco de Luis Bas es tan polivalente que me permitió diseñar varios modelos. Este es uno de ellos. Mirado con los ojos del diseñador de hoy me resulta poco convincente, demasiado rígido para un animal tan grácil.

5. Cheetah. The "monicaco" base by Luis Bas is so versatile that it allowed me to design several models. This is one of them. Looking at it through the eyes of today's designer, it feels unconvincing — too stiff for such a graceful animal.

4 Dragón. Un modelo que me encanta, seguramente diseñado de forma independiente por más personas. Es un diseño evidente a partir de la base blintz pájaro. El modelo de la foto está plegado con un papel de origami 15x15 que cayó en mis manos en aquella época. Pese a tener más de 30 años sigue conservando el color y textura original.

4. Dragon. A model I love, likely designed independently by multiple people. It's an obvious design derived from the blintz bird base. The model in the photo was folded using a 15x15 origami paper that came into my hands back in the day. Even though it's over 30 years old, it still retains its original color and texture.

3 Tiranosaurio. Este es mi primer diseño que no es variante de otro existente, aún así en mis diagramas originales parto de uno de los pasos del toro de Gabriel Alvarez. No es más que la base blintz pájaro sin desplegar. Para mi, en ese momento no existían las bases y el ahorro de espacio en las instrucciones hechas a mano era lo primero.

3. Tyrannosaurus. This is my first design that isn't a variation of an existing one. Even so, in my original diagrams, I start from one of the steps of Gabriel Alvarez's bull. It's nothing more than the blintz bird base, but not unfolded. For me, at the time, bases didn't exist, and saving space in the hand made diagrams was the top priority.

2 Cabra. Si mi primer modelo fue una variante del monicaco del Libro de las Pajaritas de Papel, este segundo lo fue del toro de Gabriel Alvarez, un modelazo. Unos pocos retoques a la base del toro y se llega a esta estética cabra con un afortunado cambio de color, no planeado, pero si interesante. En las instrucciones se parte de un paso intermedio del toro.

2. Goat. If my first model was a variation of the "monicaco" from the book Las Pajaritas de Papel, this second one was a variation of the bull by Gabriel Alvarez—a fantastic model. With just a few tweaks to the bull's base, you get this aesthetic goat with a fortunate, unplanned, but interesting color change.The instructions start from an intermediate step of the bull.
