Commemoration of the 81st Anniversary of OXI Day
Commemoration of the 81st Anniversary of Oxi Day presented by the St. Photios National Shrine in St. Augustine, Florida.
This day in 1940, Greece said “No!” (“OXI”) to the ultimatum of Mussolini’s Italy during World War II.
Greece’s repelling of the Italian invasion forced Nazi Germany to come to Italy’s aid. Greece’s heroic resistance to the fascists was acknowledged by Britain and the USA as a most significant factor in the Allies’ ultimate victory.

"Once We Were Here" A Story of Oxi Day
On October 28th, 1940, Mussolini provided Greek Prime Minister Ioannis Metaxas with an ultimatum: Either allow Axis forces to occupy their country, or face war, and Greece's response was swift. "Oxi!" they said. "No!"
The novel "Once We Were Here" by Christopher Cosmos tells the true story of Oxi Day and how the men and women of Greece resisted Italian and Nazi occupation, longer than anyone thought possible, and helped win WWII and save the world.
