I'm Oren Beckman and I am the author of the abstract comic series "inarticulate". Currently residing in Humboldt county, I splits my time between erratic spurts of drawing, making music as "Knot They're" and trying to keep my life together. There are several parts to it. Originally it was going to be a series of longer comic books, intricately illustrated in ball point pen. Each comic takes a long
time to make (at least a year) and I like to be absolutely finished with a piece before I share it with people. Because it takes such a long time, I've been thinking of doing a smaller version of "inarticulate" in the form of two to three page booklets, which I would put on this website and distribute for free. This should fill in the gaps between my release of the larger comics, which will be available as awesome physical books. So keep an eye out and an ear open for future releases. The consistent theme of "inarticulate" is pen on paper, black and white, with little to no planing or forethought for what it will be when it's done. No sketching, no pencil, what you get is what you get. and the goal of the comic is to get to the end at all, without messing it up completely. The drawings are all stream of consciousness and using pen means there is no way to erase or start over, so the drawing evolves into what it will be with little help from me. I try to keep things open ended so you can use your imagination to see whats there. Another theme of "inarticulate" is the comic grid. I wanted to make abstract drawings but use the comic book format to ground it and keep it familiar, while simultaneously using the comic book format in a different way than I'd ever seen before. There are also themes within the individual issues of the comics, even if it isn't exactly obvious. The meanings are open ended and could be interpreted in different ways. I try to keep it that way. I hope you enjoy, and I look forward to sharing more with you.
