FILM FESTIVAL COMPETITION.

RULES OF ENTRY

PRIZES 1
1.1 There will be four prizes awarded in the Festival.
1.2 There will be two categories of entries and therefore two categories of prizes.
1.3 The two categories of entry will be –
Professional and Non-Professional.
1.4 Professional Entry
You may enter the Professional Category as an individual, as an informal group of people or as a progressive organisation, union, sectio

n or branch of a union. All individuals or members of informal groups or union, section or branch group entries must be members of an Australian or New Zealand Trade Union. To qualify for the Professional Category entries will need to have used at least one professional film industry worker in the production of the entered film. This professional film industry worker or workers will need to be paid the rates of pay as outlined in the attached MEAA rates of pay sheets. Proof of such payment will need to be submitted at the time of entry. Professional film industry workers may either be used in front of the camera as actors or presenters or behind the camera as camera operators, sound operators, in lighting, make-up and/or editing, this will also include professional film industry workers employed in voice over. There may be a mix of professional and non-professional people involved in your entry, however to qualify for entry into the professional category at least one professional film industry worker must have been engaged in your entry. Professional film industry workers involved in your entry must be members of the MEAA. There will be two prizes for the Professional Category. First prize will be $1,000. Second prize will be $500.
1.5 Non-Professional Entry
You may enter the Non- Professional Category as an individual, as an informal group of people or as a union, section or branch of a union. All individuals or members of informal groups or union group entries must be members of an Australian union. There will be two prizes for the Non- Professional Category. First prize will be $500. Second prize will be $250.
1.6 Winning entries will be announced at the Film Festival
1.7 The decision of the judges will be final and no correspondence will be entered into. ENTRY CONDITIONS 2
2.1 Films must be submitted to [email protected] or sent to 3/365 Queen Street Melbourne 3000 by no later than 5pm on Friday the 29th July 2016.
2.2 Films must not be any longer than five minutes in length. Any entry that is longer than five minutes will not be eligible for the competition.
2.3 Films may be submitted in any format. On DVD, USB or may be downloaded on YouTube, Vimeo or into dropbox. If submitting by download, entries must have completed their download by 5pm on Friday the 29th July 2016.
2.4 Films may be shot on any form of recording device.
2.5 Films do not have to have been made specifically for this competition to enter, however the membership provisions in rules 1.4 and 1.5 will apply to existing films.
2.6 Any existing film which has previously been used at a conference, in training or as a Television Commercial may be submitted as an entry.
2.7 There is no specific theme to the competition, however there is an expectation that films will deal with community solidarity themes
2.8 Films may be in any style –
Documentary – a representation of an event or campaign or issue recorded or reported on. Documentary may be submitted in either the Professional or Non-Professional Categories. Drama – a dramatic representation of an event or campaign or issue. Drama may be submitted in either the Professional or Non-Professional Categories. Comedy – a comedic representation of an event or campaign or issue. Comedy may be submitted in either the Professional or Non-Professional Categories. Animation – an animated representation of an event or campaign or issue. Animation may be submitted in either the Professional or Non-Professional Categories.
2.9 Films submitted will remain the property of the individual, informal group of people or union, section or branch of a union that submitted the entry, however MediaSuper and MEAA will have the right to use any submitted film at any conference, congress, training course or associated MediaSuper and MEAA event and will have the right to exploit the film on any MediaSuper and MEAA or associated website, page, twitter feed or any other form of broadcast or narrowcast, however MediaSuper and MEAA will not use any submitted film for any commercial exploitation or commercial operation or any form of commercial use. 3.1 The top ten films selected by the judges in both the Professional and Non-Professional categories will be screened as a part of the Storyology festival of ideas in Sydney from 10-12 August 2016.
3.2 Films not selected in the top ten will not be screened and unsuccessful applicants will not be notified prior to the screening.
3.3 Finalists will not be notified prior to the screening.
3.4 The top ten Non-Professional films (excluding the runner up and winner) will be screened first followed by the top ten Professional films (excluding the runner up and winner). The runner up and winner of the Non-Professional Category will then be screened and then the runner up and winner of the Professional Category.
3.5 Prize money will be awarded on the night, however entrants do not need to be present to collect prize money or win the competition.
