What is the DW Akademie? What does our blog offer?

The DW Akademie is the media development, media consulting and professional journalism training division of Deutsche Welle – Germany's international broadcaster. It offers partners and clients worldwide a broad spectrum of training and consulting services. The work of the DW Akademie is financed by public funding. The largest donor is the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Develo

pment (BMZ). What does the DW Akademie do in Africa? Our work in Africa engages with journalists and partners across a wide range of media including radio, TV, online, mobile and film. One of the priorities of the DW Akademie in Africa is to support and strengthen independent media in post-conflict countries and countries in transition. We are for example implementing long-term media development projects in Sierra Leone, Liberia, Zimbabwe, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda. We work with a broad spectrum of local and national broadcasters, as well as regional and international development partners. The blog of the Africa Team of the DW Akademie http://blogs.dw-akademie.com/africa focuses on media development across the continent. It's a creative digital space to discuss important developments and issues in this field – media projects of the DW Akademie as well as resources for journalists and media trainers. Who writes on our blog? The authors and contributors are project managers, trainers and journalists working for the DW Akademie. You’ll find more information on the Africa Team’s web page http://www.dw-world.com/dw/0,,12135,00.html. How can I contact the Africa Team? Please email us at [email protected]. Soccer is “always the same,” said Zenzele Ndebele on our newest episode of "Survive and Thrive: The Media Viability Podcast."

“The person can pass, can miss, can hit the ball, what else can they do? The vocabulary around soccer can be limited to 14 or 15 words. I believe AI can report soccer better than human beings.”

However, the journalist and media manager also sees limitations to the use of AI in newsrooms, like investigative work or reporting in local languages.
