【UPPER 70】
YAMASH*TA will release a new squid fishing product.
This is a downsized model of the UPPER series. Size is 70mm.
It can be used with the 95mm size depending on the squid's response.
If you use a 70mm size when the squid is low activity, it is easy to get a reaction.

2024 spring season YAMASH*TA continues to release new colors every two months with the new color project.
Each color was developed for a specific situation.
This time YAMASH*TA reveals the information about the 3rd color.

082 : ONO (ORENO OLIVE)
The gold under tape works well when the water color is a little cloudy in day time and the outer cloth of olive has been a classic color since the dawn of EGING.
The visible orange lines on the back make it easy for the anglers to find where the EGI is in cloudy water conditions.

DAIWA debut new design of squid jig. The Emeraldas Amoras Joint featuring a unique free moving neck joint. This squid jig would be amazing for trawling or stationary under a float rig.

The new product would be on sale in March 2024 in Japan. Unsure if DAIWA Australia would introduce this product to Australian market

【HOW TO SELECT EGI-OH F】
EGI-OH F is the squid jig with yellow packages.
How to select the color of EGI-OH F is quite simple.
It depends on the water color.
If the water colour is muddy, please choose a bright colour.
On the other hand, if the water colour is clear, please choose a dark colour.
Choose the one that best suits the conditions of your fishing location!

SEASON REMINDERS

1 November – North Coast spawning squid area re-opens
1 November – Striped trumpeter season re-opens
4 November – Recreational rock lobster opens in waters outside the East Coast Stock Rebuilding Zone (this date was incorrect on our e-newsletter sent last Saturday). Recreational rock lobster catch reporting is not required until 2 December.

There’ll be heaps to see and do at this year’s Melbourne Boat Show!
Whether you’re keen to chat to us about a boat ramp upgrade at your local launching spot or in the market for a new rig, this weekend will be a bumper one down at Docklands.
The FREE show starts Thursday afternoon and is open from 10am on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and we’ll be here until 5pm each day.
The BBV team will be part of Welcome to Boating sessions on Saturday and Sunday, panels on the main stage and running vessel handling clinics, which are almost sold out.
Our stand will be near the main stage, next to our friends from Victorian Fisheries Authority and Women in Recreational Fishing & Boating Network and we’d love to have a chat about all things boating.
Corey Green from the VFA will be presenting on the main stage on Friday about how science helps monitor and manage Victoria's great Fisheries, while Fisheries Officers will be there on Saturday and Sunday.
Plus there's loads more exhibitors so if you’re after some new gear or just keen to see what’s out there it’ll be well worth a visit.

Reminder: The East Coast spawning squid closure started on Sunday and remains in effect until 14 November 2023.

The closure area includes all waters south from Lemon Rock (south of Wineglass Bay) to the northern end of Marion Beach (south of Maria Island) and includes Coles Bay, Great Oyster Bay and Mercury Passage.

You cannot possess squid or calamari in the closure area, or fish using a squid jig.

The North Coast squid closure also remains in effect until the 31 October 2023.

We’re doing some “ink”-redible squid research! 🦑

Squid taste delicious and are a popular catch amongst recreational fishers of all ages and skill levels 😍

To better support your future squidding activities our scientists have spent two years in Cockburn Sound (one of the most popular squidding locations in WA) scooping up biological information on these guys!

We have conducted monthly squid surveys to research where and when squid are most abundant, which habitats and depths they prefer, and how environmental factors such as temperature and water clarity affect catches 🌊
