Black women have complicated lives and complicated identities, and our oppression makes us believe we have zero space to give anything. We are navigating patriarchal white supremacy also. Yet, we do not realize the similarity of our broken pieces as cis and trans folks and that they can be remedied together. Coalition between cis and transfolks has to happen.

All weekend I’ve been seeing people comment are argue down Marsika (I think that’s how you spell that barely lightskin woman’s name) when she said reverse colorism is real. Then I saw twitter drag and “cancel” a man who made oxtail pasta due to his colorist tweets from back in the day, and y’all really thought y’all was doing something for darkskin people. . .

Y’all not doing anything in your day to day to dismantle these systems for darkskin people, I see y’all silence all the time, I see your dismissal of harm to dark skin people, I hear you say you’re uncomfortable by it, then do absolutely nothing, even ni**as with platforms!!

Until you talk about the realities of your light skin privilege, show what things you’re given simply for being light skin, you’re not doing s**t. Y’all understand being an accomplice or conspirator for everything else tho 🙄🙄

In my day job I do lots of work around conflict resolution, addressing conflict, positive peace and creating systems and frameworks that attribute to prolonged, proactive peace. I’m now trying to make all these things common practice, and I realize a lot of my ideas around conflict are conflated. Not all conflict is harm, and not all harm is abuse.

I am still accessing what this looks like practically and how it functions in my day to day, but I do know that if I believe in community as much as I say I do, then I have some work to do and my relationship with conflict has to change.

What are your ideas on community and conflict? Are we doing it right?
