Western Mass Junction Western Mass Junction promotes the Western Massachusetts region through locally grown content and event listings.

Since I've noticed a few new likes on here I just wanted to say that I'm not currently updating Western Mass Junction. I've become too busy with other projects to have the time. I may bring it back at some point but it really is a full time job and one for which almost nobody seems interested in paying me to do. So, unless someone comes along and wants to take it over or invest enough that I can quit my day job it will be dormant, once again.

I know I just started things back up but last week was pretty crazy (in a very good way) and I haven’t had any time to put any new events up. In fact I’m going to have to focus on some other projects for awhile. My plan now is to spend a little time making sure the site runs smoothly for businesses and organizations to post their own events and content. Then make it more of a self service operation and I’ll just do the behind the scenes stuff. If they want to use it great, if not then so be it.

The site was always supposed to be a tool that western mass folks could use to promote themselves rather than having anonymous clickbait blogs and state funded organizations do it for them. You may have seen that certain overly provincial organizations divided along meaningless county lines are spending more money and time on “branding” and trying to identify some magical buzzword that encapsulates what makes their sliver of western mass unique. I personally think there are no buzzwords or concepts that can accomplish that because what makes Western Mass unique is the events, businesses, organizations, creatives and individuals within it. They’re all unique and offer something to the community that together makes Western Mass greater than the sum of its parts.

I built Western Mass Junction to be a place where people could experience as many of those voices as possible in one place. It’s pretty clear that I’m not going to making it a full time thing and I’m pretty ok with it. I hope that it will continue in some way and if anyone wants to discuss ideas for that please get in touch. Branding efforts come and go, (in certain towns it seems every couple months). But the folks that make up the Western Mass experience are still here doing their thing the same way no matter what silly logo, typeface, hype video or buzzwords someone tries to affix to our community.

Things are picking up again. In fact there's a ton going on this week. The biggest music event is Signature Sounds Presents Back Porch Festival which brings everything from the bluegrass of Bella White to the New Orleans sounds of Jon Cleary to venues throughout Western Mass. Speaking of New Orleans Hawks and Reed Performing Arts Center, Bombyx Center for Arts & Equity and The Brewery at Four Star Farms all have Mardi Gras themed music this week.

Daily Operation is celebrating their new location in Easthampton with DJs spinning funk, hip hop, disco, cumbia, afrobeat and more.

The Old Deerfield Craft Fairs are back at the Big E and there are also craft fairs at Artspace Greenfield and the Union Station Ballroom in Northampton.

Springfield Museums will be celebrating Dr Seuss's birthday with lots of activities for the kids.

Out in the Berkshires The Foundry has some interesting classical music, MASS MoCA has a musical theater work world premiere and The Egremont Barn has standup comedy.

As always there's tons more on the site and please share this with friends and family.

I have never watched an episode of any singing competition show but I’ll be watching part of American Idol on Sunday when local singer Lexi Weege is on. You should too.

The 28-year-old Westfield native now lives in Montague.
