Ann snapped this picture of me in about 1990. We were still newlyweds, at the time. Our first apartment had two bedrooms. I was lucky enough to be able to use one of them for my studio. I have always been fortunate to have incredibly supportive people, in my life, giving me the time and space (and love) to draw my cartoons. It's been Ann, since 1988. before that it was my parents. In the background of this photo you can see the homemade lightbox that my dad and I made, in about 1982. It was way less expensive than buying one (which I couldn't afford) and large enough to tackle the biggest images that I ever created, including every graphic design assignment I turned in, at Colorado State University. I still have it (and a smaller one my dad rescued from being thrown away, when he worked for Denver Public Schools).

This scene has been repeated several thousand times over the past 30 years...and every, single time with results that I always hoped would spark discussion or thought or insight for everyone who saw it.

Another one from the late-90s: Hey! All you Nazi-loving white supremacist “Christians” out there! Jesus was a brown person from a whole culture of brown people. He wasn’t white. In fact, Jesus was the kind of person you feel free hating, belittling and persecuting. I’m pretty sure you wouldn’t like him (He was a bit of a Lefty, after all) so can we just call your hatred what is: Hatred, plain and simple.

From 2001: The Rocky Mountain News and the Denver Post reach an uneasy peace agreement. the Vitellos were always "News" people; never much cared for the Post. It was too damn big! So...I assumed it would be the Rocky Mountain News that would be the surviving "frenemy." That turned out to be wishful thinking. Little did I, or thousands of other people, know...the News was on the ropes before the ink on the Joint Operating Agreement was dry.

From September 21, 2012... Seems like THIS is our new normal. Our rapidly changing climate and our rapidly warming planet are making their presence known, every day, in big and little ways. Whether it's bigger, stronger and more damaging hurricanes, swamping vast areas of the coast or a fall "leaf peeping" season that lasts about four minutes, SOMETHING is going on, right under our noses and right on our watch. Yet...climate change is just a theory?....Riiiiiiiiiight.
