IT WAS A POOR GAME.

Taking nothing away from Hougang United Football Club (HGFC) for securing their first Singapore Premier League win of the season over Albirex Niigata FC Singapore, it's one of those games one wouldn't want to list as a showcase game of the league.

INEXPERIENCED - NOT AN EXCUSE

Thought the Young Lions played well in first half against Lion City Sailors Football Club despite trailing 2-0 at halftime but at this level being inexperienced is no longer an excuse when you are to be at the top of your game at this level.

- STERN LOOKING VIEIRA

Patrick Vieira (left), the then Crystal Palace manager gave a stern look during his team's pre-match training before their match against Liverpool the following day at the National Stadium in July 2022.

The 1998 World Cup winner with France is an Arsenal legend for helping the North Londoners to three Premiership and four FA Cup triumphs during his stint with the Gunners from 1996-2005.

Vieira was appointed as the Eagles' gaffer in July 2021 before being shown the door in March 2023.

ICYMI - YAZEEN TO STEP DOWN

After seven years in the role, Yazeen BuharI is set to leave his role as Football Association of Singapore's General Secretary on 30 September 2024, in a media statement announced by the local game's governing body this afternoon (5/7).

As a FIFA match official, Yazeen was the referee for the match between Singapore Selection and Atletico Madrid in the SOF-Peter Lim Charity Cup back in May 2013 at the Jalan Besar Stadium.

A dejected Richard Bok faced the media after his SAFFC side were shutout 4-0 by arch-rivals Home United at the Choa Chu Kang Stadium.

The defeat in this "Uniform Derby" fixture effectively dashed any hopes SAFFC had of reclaiming the S.League title, which they last won in 2009 (they did win again in 2014 as Warriors FC under Englishman Alex Weaver).

Coach Bok left the club after guiding the team to their 2012 Singapore Cup triumph.

- MISSED A SITTER

That must be one of those moments anyone would find it hard to believe when it happened right in front of our own eyes.

Pictured here at the already dismantled King George's Stand (KGS) of Jalan Besar Stadium in the 2015 SEA Games opening match against the Philippines, all of us witnessed one of the worst sitters even missed in the six-yard box in football 😨.

Unfortunately, the Cubs won the match one-nil in yet another disappointing outing in the regional meet.

KGS, seen as a legacy of LionsXII's involvement in the Malaysian League, was dismantled in late 2015 after the expiration of the relevant permit ℹ️.

Despite the 3-1 loss to Thailand last night (11/6), Lions' custodian found himself becoming the darling of the Chinese fans for his performance in Bangkok.🧤

China qualified for the next round of the World Cup Qualifiers after Thailand failed to beat Singapore by three clear goals.

RIP MR HASLIR IBRAHIM

Former national defender Haslir Ibrahim (pictured, as credited) passed away this morning (7/6) at the age of 74, according to Mediacorp's Berita portal.

Mr Haslir was a member of Singapore's 1977 Malaysia Cup winning team, and it was his header in the tense second-leg semi-final against arch-rivals Selangor at the Merdeka Stadium that propelled "Uncle" Choo Seng Quee's men to the final that year.

The former Toa Payoh United defender is survived by his wife, six children, and 16 grandchildren.
