On May 25th we celebrated the life and legacy of our late founder, Richard McDonnell, with a memorial concert at Jazz at the Bistro. HEC-TV's "I Love Jazz" was there to capture the incredible music performed throughout the day.

We mourn the recent passing of our dear friend Patti Wicks. Patti was an accomplished pianist and vocalist whose poignant life experiences informed her music. We had the pleasure of launching our vocalpiano series in 2003 with Patti's recording of gorgeous ballads titled "Love Locked Out" featuring the late bassist Keter Betts and drummer Joe LaBarbera. Our condolences to her family.

The very talented drummer ART TAYLOR left us this day at age 65 in 1995. Taylor "helped define the sound of modern jazz drumming" (Peter Watrous, NYTimes), and he played with many of the best jazz musicians of his time, including Gene Ammons, John Coltrane and Red Garland.

Saxophonist SONNY STITT - one of the greatest - was born on February 2 (like Stan Getz) in 1924 (d. July 22, 1982). Alto and tenor saxophones were his instruments, and he made music that soared. Dubbed the "Lone Wolf", he was truly a giant of the music.
