Big Announcement: The DJ company formerly known as DJ Rian Souleles is transforming into Traveling Discotheque!
There has been one guiding philosophy of my event DJ company, DJ Rian Souleles, and that is to provide the ideal wedding DJ experience I feel my ideal couple would want. I have invested my passion and creative energy into meticulously tailoring this experience by DJing hundreds of weddings and events in WA, CA, and OR to discover these elements.
To fully realize this, it became apparent I needed to expand and transform, so today I’m so excited to present Traveling Discotheque. A DJ & Musician Collective to encompass all that I and my team of artists and musicians are passionate about. We provide unparalleled and unique DJ music curation services, lighting design, and now stellar live musician ensembles that can jam with the DJ or can accompany your ceremony and/or cocktail hour.

Both of them approach the advant-garde and the sonic ineffable with shards of the shattered lens of their folk and classical roots. is a brilliant electronic singer-songwriter that composes beautiful songs that explore and push the sonic envelope while balancing the emotional resonances of canonical pop and the primordial sublime. She made one of my favorite albums of 2022, Cedar. She is also my love and fiancee.

The 2022 wedding season has been phenomenal! I have 26 weddings on the 2022 calendar, which included 3 fill ins for other DJs that had Covid, and I still have 11 more to go! I also have to give props to Sean at for filling in for me when I had Covid. This season there have been so many lovely and cool couples with fantastic playlists, I’ve worked with rockstar wedding vendors and planners and played at the most idyllic venues. I’m so lucky that this is my art, job, and soul craft, and I still can’t believe I do this every weekend. Love and thanks to everyone. This is the first time I mixed Deee-lite (122BPM) into La Roux (123BPM) and definitely will do it again! Instinct and improvisation is one of my favorite elements of DJing. I never go to a DJ gig with a static, pre-determined playlist or know exactly every song I am going to play. Each wedding DJ set is unique, but heavily informed by the couple’s Must Play List, the 20/1st century wedding cannon and my deep musical knowledge, requests, and most importantly, reading the room and instinct. The wedding DJ is getting married! It brings me great joy to announce that I’m engaged, and marrying my love, the brilliant, beautiful musician and composer, Dr. Kaley Lane Eaton on July 22nd, 2023. After seven years together, pulled over in a Redwood grove, with rain pouring down, I said I wanted to get married! Naturally, because we became engaged in the Redwoods, we were pulled towards marrying near these tall, wise ancient beings. We found Amphitheater of the Redwoods at Pema Olsel Ling, a Tibetan Buddhist Retreat Center, in the forest outside of Santa Cruz, California. The venue gave us the deep feels and we love it! I highly recommend checking them out! Having a weekend wedding at a Tibetan Buddhist Retreat center with the ceremony in a natural Redwood circle is tailor made for our wedding, and we couldn’t have found a better fit for our 70s themed ferns and disco ball wedding! The hardest part of the planning process so far, which many of you may sympathize with, is two musicians narrowing down our 150+ and counting collective wedding Spotify playlist to a manageable size! Wish us luck. Now that the turntables have turned, and I’m on the other side of the DJ booth, I’m in solidarity with all of you engaged couples! And no, I will not be DJing my own wedding—I’m leaving that to Kim and Ryan at . Maybe, if the mood is right, I might see if I can jump on the decks for a very short mix. We will see! The 2022 wedding season has arrived! I’m gearing up to DJ a wedding this weekend in Leavenworth. I’m filling in for a DJ friend that got Covid and had to cancel at the last minute, so please take all precautions necessary to stay healthy: vax, mask, test. To switch things up, yesterday I assisted for my stellar DJ friend Kyle Stevens at at one of my favorite venues in Woodinville. Kyle and I’s DJ philosophy and style are simpatico and he has a rare musician’s taste in tunes and can really rock a dance floor. If I’m booked, he’s my go to DJ to send prospective clients to. After DJing close to 100 weddings through all my adult life, this is my first time assisting another wedding DJ. I want to shout out to all my crew this 2021 season! You all were rockstars, are infinitely appreciated, and made my job significantly less difficult and much more fun. Thank you for your interception and patience for very drunk people and their requests, the dance moves, the late night rapid sweaty load outs, the endless cokes and soda waters you bring me, real time creative, trouble shooting and improvisations, and tolerance of my obsession on cable management and cable wrapping. I love you all.

I’m really loving the aesthetics and fast setup time of our new lighting setup from . The Ape Lab Maxis are stellar wireless uplights, but they also work as a brilliant, overhead wash light for the dance floor! I love the unique prismatic colors of the Cans. We now provide a disco ball along with wireless dance floor lights and uplights for those couples that want the pinnacle of discotheque style at their wedding! There is no modern light that can mimic the aesthetic of this analog classic because of the hundreds of mirror reflected points of light that it projects.
For a long time, I envisioned a wedding dance floor lighting experience that was unique and matched the same alternative vibe and style I brought to my couple’s weddings. Like my fashion, I wanted to bring lighting that was different than just two lights on totems, which is what the vast majority of wedding DJs do. I wanted to provide lighting that was akin to the psychedelic lighting I had experienced in dance clubs and concerts when I went to see my favorite DJs and artists live at a club. I wanted kaleidoscopic colors that would sync to the beat of the music, but I didn’t want it distracting or unsafe for guests with lasers or strobes, or take hours to setup. Although there are some really cool future upgrades planned, I feel I’m so much closer to my ultimate vision.
