Give strong fight to rivals in J&K elections: Ashok Koul to party candidates

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) General Secretary (Organization) Ashok Koul on Saturday emphasized upon party candidates and leaders to give tough fight to rivals in the upcoming assembly elections of Jammu and Kashmir.
He at the occasion stressed upon the unity among candidates and party leaders, and directed them to focus on strengthening the party at the grassroots level.
The BJP leader expressed these remarks while chairing an election review meeting with BJP candidates Rafiq Wani, Sofi Yousuf, Javid Qadri, Veer Saraf, Arshad Bhat, Showkat Gayoor, Adv Wajahat, Choudhary Roshan and Ashok Bhat in south Kashmir’s Anantnag.

During the meeting, Koul addressed the candidates and senior leaders, and District Presidents including Dr. Darakshan Andrabi, Altaf Thakur, Charanjeet Singh Khalsa, Mudasir Wani and others; and emphasized the importance of unity among candidates and party leaders to ensure a strong fight in the upcoming 2024 assembly elections.

He urged the party leaders and workers to focus on strengthening the party at the grassroots level.
Expressing confidence during the review meeting, Koul stated that the BJP is poised to form the government in Jammu and Kashmir.

In the meeting, the party appointed Altaf Thakur as Convenor of the Assembly Election Management Committee 2024 for south Kashmir.

Dr Darakshan Andrabi has been assigned the responsibility of overseeing the election campaign and planning, while as Charanjeet Singh Khalsa will monitor the election campaign and other management tasks.

7 US Troops Injured in Raid with Iraqi Forces; 15 ISIS Militants Killed

The U.S. military and Iraqi forces conducted a joint raid in western Iraq’s Anbar Desert on August 29, targeting ISIS militants, as reported by AP.

Mughal road closed due to inclement weather

Traffic movement on Mughal road has been stopped due to inclement weather for the last couple of days in Jammu and Kashmir, officials said on Friday.

An official told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that all sorts of traffic movement has been stopped on the road due to inclement weather.

He said that the road has been closed as a precautionary measure as there are apprehensions of shooting stones and landslides on the stretch due to inclement weather.

"The road will be opened for traffic after improvement in weather conditions," he said and advised people not to travel on the road for now—(KNO)

Gold Drops ₹100, Silver Falls ₹600 Amidst Lower Demand

Former PM Deve Gowda inspects Srinagar-Baramulla railway line

Former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda boarded the Srinagar- Baramulla train and inspected the railway line on Thursday.

He was accompanied by railway officials.

Gowda boarded the train at Nowgam Srinagar railway station at 11:30 am and arrived in Baramulla at 12:30 pm to review the facilities available to passengers.

".. It was during my tenure that I sanctioned the Srinagar-Baramulla railway project," he told reporters.

"At the time of sanctioning, this project was declared a national project. I wanted to see how the railway track has been laid out and the facilities provided to passengers."

Gowda, who was seated in a wheelchair after inspecting the railway line, travelled to Uri by a vehicle to review the power projects he had sanctioned during his tenure.–(UNI)

Ukrainian Lawmaker Claims F-16 Was Lost Due to Friendly Fire

A US-made F-16 fighter jet, handed over to Ukraine earlier this year, was reportedly downed by a Ukrainian Patriot air defense system in a friendly fire incident, according to Ukrainian lawmaker Maryana Bezuglaya. She criticized the Ukrainian Air Force for falsely labeling the incident as a "crash" and condemned the lack of accountability among military leadership, as reported by TASS news agency.

Bezuglaya highlighted that the "culture of lies" within the Air Force Command hinders effective decision-making, leading to deteriorating military management. The incident resulted in the loss of both the aircraft and its pilot, Alexey Mes, who was initially reported to have died in an aerial fight.

One person killed, 8 others injured in accident on Mughal road

One person died, and eight others were injured in a vehicle accident on the Mughal Road, connecting Kashmir Valley with Rajouri and Poonch, on Thursday morning.

The accident occurred near Chandimarh. The injured were taken to Sub District Hospital Surankote, with three critically injured individuals referred to GMC Rajouri.

The deceased has been identified as Yaser Ahmed, while the injured include residents of Marhote village. Police have registered a case in connection with the incident.

Three terrorists killed in twin Kupwara operations: Army

Three terrorists are believed to be killed as security forces on Wednesday evening launched anti—militancy operations at two places in Kupwara in North Kashmir, officials said.

Officials informed the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that based on specific intelligence inputs, troops from the 57 Rashtriya Rifles and 53 Infantry Brigade launched an operation in the Kamkari area of the Machil sector.

“At approximately 19:40 hours, movement of the infiltrating terrorists was detected which led to the quick establishment of contact, ensuring a firefight,” they said.

In the ensuing operation, two terrorists are believed to be killed, while bodies are yet to be retrieved. Operation is in progress, officials added.

Similarly, in another operation at Tangdhar, one terrorist is likely to have been gunned down, as searches continues in the area.

“Based on intelligence inputs regarding likely infiltration bids, a Joint anti-infiltration Operation was launched by & on the intervening night of 28-29 Aug 24 in general area Tangdhar, Kupwara. One terrorist is likely to have been neutralised”, reads a post on X by Indian Army.

Gunfight Erupts in North Kashmir

A fierce gunfight has broken out between militants and security forces along LoC in Tangdhar area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

News agency GNS reported that a joint team of security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Tangdhar.

As the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the forces, triggering off a gunfight.
A senior police officer has in the meantime also confirmed about exchange of firing between militants and security forces.
