Are you a musician in the downtown Eastside interested in showcasing your work on a radical record compilation?

Are you a musician living in the V6A postal code or without a fixed address?

Are you seeking the opportunity to produce your work in a professional studio setting?

In collaboration with Creative BC, KW Studios, and the Heart of the City Festival, we are currently looking for musicians in Vancouver’s from all over the DTES to showcase, produce, and publish their work. This project will bolster musician’s understandings of recording practices, connect them with existing musical initiatives, and enhance their skills in musical production.

Project outputs:

Run of 300 LPS; two showcase shows for musicians; 8-10 hours of studio time for musicians to record tracks for the record.

---

To participate:

Please submit a demo of your work, or a proposal / outline of what you would like to do to [email protected] – demos are due by August 1st.

At the direction of the project steering committee, 14 to 20 musicians will be given the opportunity to record live in studio, as well as stage time at our musician’s showcases. Participants will be provided with session musicians for the live shows or recording sessions should they request them!

Criteria for inclusion as project participant:

1) Live in the V6A Postal Code or have no fixed address

2) Have not had the opportunity to record professionally in studio

3) Produce art outside the boundaries of official culture; particularly those creating art ouside of the established art scene

4) Meet at least one of the following criteria:
-Visible minority
-Indigenous
-Person with a disability
-LGBT2Q2S*
-Be receiving income assistance
-Be a person diagnosed with a mental disorder
-Be a person who uses drugs
-Minority language speaker
-Refugee

“The funny thing is, this tour was planned in the very early days of COVID before it became a serious topic and shut the world down, we thought it would be edgy to call it the 'Survive the Virus Tour' and then it became as serious as it was. Obviously, our tour did not survive the virus."

40 years of Hardcore 81! D.O.A.

40 years ago today Hardcore 81 was released, time flies by my friends. We recorded that album in a complete whirlwind, it took all of 4 or 5 days and Tracy Marks did a great job of recording it. Hardcore 81 put the term "Hardcore" into our common vernacular. This August, Sudden Death Records is releasing the 40th Anniversary edition with 3 bonus tracks and 12 page booklet "D.O.A.'s History of Hardcore".
This re-release is dedicated to my fallen comrades Randy Rampage and Dave Gregg.
Long live Randy and Dave, miss you both my brothers.
