News we never wanted to deliver... Long may You Run, Jeff Atta! 💔💔💔💔 From The Middle Class official page: With a heavy heart, we would like to inform all of our friends that Jeff Atta, the heart and soul of the Middle Class has shuffled off this mortal coil. Jeff Atta, originally resisted the pull of Mike P and Mike and Bruce Atta to form the band that became Middle Class. Once he joined us an amazing thing happened and we found our voice and then our tribe who embraced us as their own. Jeff’s lyrics and passion were intelligent and intense, writing about subjects that few of the bands at the time were. Jeff’s message was our collective message and without him, MIddle Class would not have existed in the form this page celebrates. We are stunned by his passing. Mike Patton, Matt Simon and Jeff were together just five weeks ago and enjoyed time together reconnecting and reminiscing about our amazing years together. We always remained friends. Though we did not continue on like many of our peers, we were able to play together again some years ago until Mike Atta’s cancer took him. Jeff insisted and MIke Patton agreed that there would be no ‘tribute band’ called the MIddle Class with different people playing these songs. We were our own creation and other than our drummer Matt Simon (who replaced Bruce Atta) no one else could capture the essence of what we did. Those of us left standing honor what he gave. Jeff and his brother Mike remain in these songs and the people who they touched. As details emerge we will let you know but for now, good night sweet prince. Nothing gold can stay.

Sorry to be the bearer of such terrible news -- Jeff Atta has passed. It's been an honor working with him as the band played a few live shows and released The Middle Class' compilation as well as the re-release of Out of Vogue. We wish his wife Dorothy and the rest of his family deepest condolences. 💔

Stimulators c.1978-1983 "At The Blackout"��New York's first proto-hardcore band, The Stimulators, were the bridge from Punk Rock to that newly-created genre

“At The Blackout” is a Denise Mercedes (Music) and Patrick Mack (Lyrics) classic Stimulators composition. Their group performed this frightening and eye-opening song through their brief but very influential career. A native New Yorker, Mercedes as a youngster experienced the first great NYC Blackout on Nov 9, 1965 at 5:27 pm. The world stood still, motionless. Terror flooded the senses. And no one, anywhere, knew what had happened, or why. It was shocking, dreadful and inexplicable how the world’s greatest city had been plunged into pitch black darkness and sheer panic in the silent blink of an eye and brought to its knees. Nothing worked. Anywhere. It was completely horrifying to the millions who lived and worked in the City, all who were now rendered powerless to do anything at all-- and not know why….?

The band’s lyrics were always extremely critical to them, most often with strong social commentary, written by poet Patrick Mack (RIP, 1983) to resonate with authenticity and true clarity. Their strong songwriting became the band’s trademark style which fans loved. The lyrics in this song are truly frightening and hopefully not prophetic. During the Covid Pandemic lockdowns, Denise and Nick Marden, Stimulators’ final bassist, decided to rework this never-recorded song as a small side project between them, doing it undercover in secret, at friend Themi’s neighborhood studio -- as social gatherings and activities were completely banned everywhere. Nick added in some new lyrics that reflected the current Internet/Digital age and how a PERMANENT Blackout, as through an Electro Magnetic Pulse, as in a Nuclear attack or solar flare would cripple the entire world as we knew it – “sending us back into the Dark Ages.” People are now so totally dependent on Social Media for their personal lives and businesses, such a breakdown of those platforms would devastate and end all the good and all the bad --- “when the lights go out FOR GOOD!”

Happy Bandcamp Friday!
It's been nearly 10 years since we released a special edition of three promo singles to celebrate Frontier's 35th anniversary. These 45s were originally part of a collaboration between us, K&L Faultline Spirits, and St George Spirits, and were given away with the purchase of some really excellent booze (sadly no longer available), but you can own a set of the vinyl on its own at a new low price for Bandcamp Friday! Pure punk all the way, the ADOLESCENTS 7" is on clear "gin" vinyl; the WEIRDOS 7" is on brown "bourbon" vinyl; the CHRISTIAN DEATH 7" in on green "absinthe" vinyl. Sleeve and center label art by the legendary Jaime Hernandez. Tracks were remastered for 45 rpm and they sound fantastic! Pick up a set or two today - and pour yourself a cocktail, it's the weekend!
