Brief message for everyone to start your week.
I’m living my beliefs and this is what I believe:
Persistance + Habit = Discipline
Discipline + Obsession = Success
Am I where I want to be? Definitely not.
But if I look back two or three years, I realize the momentum is crazy and it pushes me to continue by applying daily discipline. I’m loving the process and the progress and because of that I can’t lose.
Continuing on the “Embrace the Suck” theme, got up at 4am to prep for a hike and video shoot with the sunrise for the ZenandNow meditation events.
Then instead of hiking down the steep parts, I went the other way.
Check out the video and then the comments for the video at the top and see how hard I’m breathing there!
If you’re not making progress, you’re probably not pushing yourself.
Earlier this morning, I posted a video of a navy seal who advises us to “Embrace the Suck”. It is the only way to grow. So this morning, I attacked hill climbing on my bike, something I was scared to do and I made it. After a 12 mike ride along the beach, I aimed my bike to the Santa Monica mountains and pedaled my brains out. Slowly but I made it.
Your environment matters.
It can inspire and remind you of critical things that drive decisions.
Today’s message is a reminder that people need you to achieve your big goals.
That’s what having Maximum Impact really means.
Also, biking messes with my hair. I need a haircut.
10-40-100
Biking down the beach is a constant reminders that if 100 is where our big goals and dreams are, we’re generally putting in 10% of our capacity. If we push hard and think we can’t do more, we’re at 40%.
Are you truly living?
If you've given up on your dreams or just feel stuck, truly understanding what you want is the first step.
I got clear about it three years ago, wrote it down and started taking massive action. Some of the actions are sacrifices and you have to be very clear about which sacrifices you're willing to make and which ones you're not.
One of the massive actions I took was firing myself as the CEO of a growing startup. It was a brutal and a nearly debilitating decision from a short term financial perspective.
A lot of zeroes most likely flushed down the toilet. Nearly every penny I ever made, including a decent payout from a previous startup exit. It was f**king brutal.
One of the non negotiables however was family. The deep love and respect I have for my amazing wife that has supported me since I was 13. The deep love and devotion I have for our three daughters and my desire to help them become successful women in their own right as they stand on the precipice of full adulthood and independence.
They are my "WHY" and it forced me to step up to the mission rather than bring the mission down to my level. To disrupt myself, including my environment. It drives me daily!
So what is your "WHY" and WTF are you doing about it? People are counting on you - it isn't about you!
Sit down, think about it, set stretch goals, write them down, make a plan and start taking massive action, adjust and remain agile.
And never ever ever give up.
"It is our decisions not our conditions that shape our life" Tony Robbins
We are our own worst enemy - we constantly have the opportunity to do the right thing when it comes to achieving ours goals but we sabotage ourselves.
Pay attention to the self talk today and see how often you're about to make the wrong decision or you talk down to yourself.
#mondaymorning #tip meditation is really not complicated. You can start by simply getting comfortable and breathing. To help focus on the breath, use a counting technique. If you get distracted, know that it is absolutely normal so don't feel bad. Just go back to counting.
Webinar and Podcast for Stressed and Exhausted Entrepreneurs
Some of you may have caught this video before. It turned out to be pretty popular so I tacked on a 15 minute podcast. I discuss the 5 steps I took to lower stress, crank up my energy and achieve clarity so that I could take massive action. I also announce the launch of a new webinar. Webinar for Entrepreneurs: Meditation, Gratitude and other tips
Hello fellow entrepreneurs. After years in the trenches, I've learned a few incredibly valuable things about achieving clarity, lowering stress and maintaining an extremely high level of energy. It has allowed me to take massive action towards my goals.
Meditation, gratitude, diet, sleep and other daily rituals are all part of it. For the first time ever, I'm sharing my best tips in a 90 minute webinar. Follow the link for dates and a more in depth video.
The first webinar is on March 20 and I'm reserving this one for friends and quite frankly to practise. It is the first time I use WebinarJam and I need some guinea pigs (YOU :).

I’m not one for regrets, always falling or moving forward but once in a while, you have to look back and ask “what if”. You have to learn from your mistakes and realize that you might have pulled the plug on something just before it was about to turn the corner.
I took a lot of chances and did some crazy sh*t after I quit my six figure job in 2006. It was so much fun but to be honest, I feel like I took some of concepts to the red zone but, for some reason, didn’t take it across the goal line.
I think I was ahead of my time on nearly every front and pivoted instead of sticking to it and working through it while the world caught up. A few examples.
Cobra Lights
You know those street lights that are nearly everywhere that look like a cobra head? Ummm, they’re called cobra lights. How do I know?
Back in 2006, after I quit my job and joined a VC as an Entrepreneur In Residence (EIR), I was driving along during the daytime and noticed that some of the lights were on and some weren’t. I figured they would be on a centralized timer but it was obviously not the case.
Curious, and with an idea brewing, I contacted the city and the expert there told me that there’s a light sensor on top that is replaceable. Sometimes they break or sometimes, after a heavy rain, water collects and blocks the light. The key is that the sensors screw on and you can replace them easily.
So I went to the city warehouse where they store and repair these lights and talked the guy there into give me a few. I brought them home and completely reverse engineered them and came up a way to turn the lights into wireless repeaters. By taking a modular approach, you could also add cameras and sensors for all sorts of purposes.
I explored this for a bit but funding a hardware startup in Ottawa was very painful in the mid 2000s .. it was right after the crash. I parked it but to this day believe it is a good idea. With the transition to LED street lights, this concept is now starting to happen, with
