A Marine stands guard while a brave young child dies.

Every now and then, in the middle of the constant barrage of crap that’s just pi***ng us all off these days, we come across a story, a feat, an event that just makes us stop in our tracks. This was one for me.

Cody Green was a 12-year kid in Indiana who was diagnosed with leukemia at 22 months old. He loved the Marines, and his parents said he drew strength and courage from the Marine Corps as ... he bravely fought the battle into remission three times. Although he was cancer-free at the time, the chemotherapy had lowered his immune system and he developed a fungus infection that attacked his brain. Two weeks ago, as he struggled to fend off that infection in the hospital, the Marines wanted to show how much they respected his will to live, his strength, honor and courage. They presented Cody with Marine navigator wings and named him an honorary member of the United States Marine Corps.

For one Marine, that wasn't enough ... so that night, before Cody Green passed away, he took it upon himself to stand guard at Cody's hospital door all night long, 8 hours straight.

Nowhere on the face of this planet is there a country so blessed as we to have men and women such as this.

Priscilla Presley recently stopped in Nixa to share stories about her life before and after Elvis and to highlight poignant memories they created together.
She opened up to the packed crowd Jan. 22 at the Aetos Center for the Performing Arts, which is part of Nixa Public Schools. The center, on the Nixa High School campus, will mark its one-year anniversary Feb. 17.
In an interview after the event, the 78-year-old said the tour has provided a chance to "set the record straight." She weighed in on recent movies depicting her life with Elvis — including one starring a Springfield native — and offered insight on how she has navigated the grief of lost loved ones.
"When I got the call from Joe Esposito that Elvis was in the hospital and not well at all, that I needed to come there, that it was serious, I got ready and ... they sent a plane for me," she said. "I went to Graceland right away."
She said the loss was "shocking and it is still hard to believe."

The last live show that Presley ever performed occurred in 1977. The day was June 26, a date that kept popping up in Elvis history. It was his manager, Colonel Tom Parker's, birthday (as far as anyone can tell — the guy was sketchy like an A-ha music video). Plus, according to Rolling Stone, Elvis was first called to the Sun Records office on June 26, 1954. Three years to the day after that, he spent his first night at Graceland. On June 26, 1979, Elvis' father died of heart failure. Coincidence? Yeah, probably, but don't let that stop your inner conspiracy theorist from itching like a man in a fuzzy tree.

On the night in question, Elvis was on the tail end of an arduous nine-day tour. His last concert would be performed for a packed crowd at the Market Square Arena in Indianapolis. Nearly 18,000 people attended, per the Indiana Historical Bureau, none realizing they were witnessing history.
