Hi everyone, sorry for the lack of posting on this page… I blew out my knee on a bicycle trail ride and have been incapacitated , just now getting around on crutches….. waiting on prognosis for possible surgery, but won’t be able to drive W***y for a long time to come. Thanks for your patience…. Meanwhile , I’m starting a new venture, Sharing some of my songs and stories , to be filmed in a studio and performed live. These will all then be posted on this page… G
Success at last…the new starter motor made all the difference! W***y is running better than ever before! New carport for the trailer is coming along, should be done in a few days…New seats were a gift from my songwriting buddy, Clint Daniels, you’ll know his number ones when you turn on ‘Some Of It’ by Eric Church… ‘Brokenheartsville’ by Joe Nichols and many more…. Thank You, Clint!
8 months into W***ys rebuild, with over 20 k invested and it all comes down to today...I hope this new starter works, fingers crossed!
HANNAN....W***y’s new ride arrived! Due to long distances between some shows, he will now have his own support… newly re built starter will be ready later this week, so I’ll be fitting a new winch to trailer and completing the new carport in the mean time!
This morning, I thought the removal of W***y's problematic starter, would be easy...wrong! The wasps that had been building a nest under his hood , waited patiently for me to squeeze up under the engine, before launching their assault! There was no fast or easy retreat, but I survived whilst cussing like a drunken sailor! Next job was to continue digging the post holes for a new carport to house W***y's custom trailer, currently under construction in Alabama... I learned today that planting 12 foot 6x6 posts in a three foot deep hand dug hole, is a difficult procedure with a beer in one hand ...and never move a step ladder with tools on top, especially a chisel a hammer and a drill, they tend to dent the top of your head ! I am challenged daily by this jeep, but will continue on!
The first 'Backroad W***y' songwriter concert series kicks off in a couple of days.....We'll be meeting up with a renowned country music singer /songwriter with multiple #1's by the likes of Eric Church, Joe Nichols and Montgomery Gentry!....This is going to be a good one!
First test drive went well today! No problems. We covered about 30 miles of Tennesse backroads at our top cruising speed of 45 mph. Tomorrow is a busy day…. Spare tire bracket will be fitted and extra fuel bracket installed. The fuel bracket will hold the 1952 Jerry can I ordered with a 5 gallon capacity. Next major project will be to cut a wedge out of the inside rear fender on the drivers side, turn it around and re weld in place… this will give me an extra 4 inches of leg room. So far , so good, Pleased with the progress so far!

HANNAN...'W***y' fired right up after a four month hibernation! New wiring harness installed and a few added upgrades, he is close to being ready to hit the road! Two original seats have been ordered from Arizona, and a horn and windshield wiper motor installation are next on the list. In May, I'll drive my ford, 17 hours to the UP of Michigan to pick up an original hard top and doors for W***y, to be fitted and painted! I'm currently in search of a 1/4 ton trailer to carry camping equipment for our adventures. Thank you all for your patience, I look forward to posting from the road soon, now that winter is finally over!

HANNAN..The recent 60 mph wind storm at the camp, blew out a window that slammed into W***y's side causing minor damage, that's his left headlight sticking out under the main building. Good news is, the total rewiring job has been scheduled for Jan 21 and should take about 2 full weekends of work. Weather conditions this time of year, negate any chance of driving without heat, wipers or a hard top, but creates opportunity to plan and improvise equipment for the spring. Will keep all updated on progress and equipment selection as a matter of interest during this time of hibernation, counting the days till spring!

HANNAN....so, my self serving interest in buying , 'W***y'.....was the fact, I was about to turn 62 and he just happened to be a 62 model ! Looking up his serial number, I found he had been manufactured in Oct 1961....the same month and year as my birth! We were the same....Old, slow, round and temperamental!
Now, there is a small bridge across a large creek to get to my camp and I wanted a vehicle, capable of the crossing if ever the bridge was compromised. I chose something that cost about the same as a new ATV, but would increase in value with age and was built to last! I also wanted something I was proud of, that could drive on public roads legally and participate in veterans parades to honor the military. Additionally, I wanted to get creative and come up with a tiny tailgate of a stage, for some of the musics industry's most successful songwriters to uniquely perform their songs from. This mostly light hearted page is designed to steal a couple of seconds from your day and make you smile, maybe hear an iconic original song by the writer, or visit a location you would never have otherwise heard of!...We love ya! HANNAN... Happy New Year to all! Really looking forward to sharing some adventures with you in 2024! Next week, W***y will be going in for an entire rewiring of the vehicle. An electronic ignition will be installed along with new coil, spark plugs and leads. New Seats, Windshield wiper motors, heater, seat belts and horn will also be added. In May, we'll add a hard top and doors for seasonal use. 5 new music shows have been added to the tailgate concert series, in just the last week. Stay safe out there, we look forward to seeing you all, on a back road near you!
HANNAN... Breakfast at 'Buck and Doe's' in Hampshire, TN, is a culinary delight!...Go for the 'Big Boppa’! We will be part of a regular, musical 'get together' here this summer called 'Cars and Guitars'!

W***Y....Hannan took me to the tire shop the other day, to get a spare...The mechanic asked him, 'When last were your tire's rotated'?...'On the way over here'? was his response....Geez, this is going to be a long journey!
W***Y....So, Hannan has a buddy who is a frequent visitor to the camp, that's him on the left....Hannan, on the right is a lot more 'rounded' in body style! Anyway, this character pretty well lives under a cowboy hat and has a thick southern drawl, dripping with humor, I mean 'blow a gasket' kinda belly ache laughing humor! How do I know? him and Hannan were my passengers on a drive, up in the hills behind his house the other day and never has a Jeep laughed so hard! Anyway, his name is Wynn Varble and him and Hannan have been buddies for 20 years, traveling the country and doing songwriter shows together! You'll be hearing a lot of stories on Mr Varble from Hannan, some of them even true!... but you should go check him out on facebook at Wynn Varble Official and go see him in concert, you won’t regret it!…. Hannan, on the other hand….
HANNAN. Well, at least we have that in common, W***y…. You are no great performer yourself! I've done more walking than riding since I wasted my money on you!
W***Y...As a cj5, I'm proud to be part of the longest production run on jeeps, 54 to 84 ...30 years!

HANNAN.....W***y just up and quit on me the other day, three miles from the camp, no warning at all! Had to walk all the way back and get a truck to tow him home, he's on my s**t list!.
W***Y....C'mon now, chunky butt, it's not like you don't need the exercise? If you were going through the airport, they'd arrest you for carrying 10 pounds of crack!

HANNAN.....well, if there is one thing beer belly's are good for.... it's obscuring an ugly jeep!
W***Y...The first day of delivery to my new home , 'Hannan' takes me out on a test drive. His 86 year old Dad 'Jimbo' just happened to be visiting at the time and I felt a real sense of purpose, facilitating an experience these two can enjoy together! Note the beer cooler at the back, there was a 'get together' planned for the next day to celebrate Hannans Birthday with some of his songwriting buddies, I was designated bartender.
W***Y...Medical update...like most 61 year olds, I developed an incontinence problem and left a wet spot on the garage floor on the day of my sale to Hannan...My former owner agreed to take me in for a check up before any money changed hands! I was diagnosed with a rear end issue and after much poking and prodding and a $2500 bill, was declared fit to go! I'm feeling a lot better, but still need a little more work done....getting old is tough!
HANNAN...well, I'd rather you get your rear end fixed than be a pain in mine!
