he’s fresh from shooting his newest straight 8 (their smoothest shoot so far!) - we discussed the collaborative process of working with actors, the dynamic of co-directing, and how little tricks can turn a good film into a great one.
@ninamariallmoslechner then joined us - who’s also just finished shooting her straight 8 2025 film. nina shared her feelings on the freedom of shooting on film and the limitations it brings. and we discussed the joy of that moment of anticipation between shooting something, and seeing how it all came out.

the vibes continued across the pond with director @elisekibler and actor @nicolekang, discussing the joy of just going out there and doing something, the adrenaline of treading the line between live theatre and conventional filmmaking - and how with straight 8 every shot is always “‘perfect! let’s move on”
and it all hinged on the most straight 8 concept of all: embrace fear, embrace imperfections, embrace one-shot-and-move-on and just go and do.

another joyous feeling friday! this week was the battle of the filmed-theatre films…
we started in berlin with @lolalalolalalola, ananda, and their team - they’ve just wrapped their in-theatre-shot straight 8 and lola is playing a valentines day gig @biddlebros in clapton on feb 14th. free entry so come along
@leajackson joined us, who has just wrapped a double-straight-8 year: diecting one film and then acting in another. lea didn’t shoot in a theatre, but she works in one.. they have a @royalcourttheatre scratch night coming up march 14th where they’ll show some brand new new talent projects. DM her if you want to come.
THEN we were joined by @hopepickeringfilm, who just shot HER straight 8 in as a live-theatre production… director @fineitsgrace also jumped on. they found out about straight 8 through one of our workshops @metfilmschool.
they funded their straight 8 through a threate and poetry fundraising night. grace says if you’re keen to enter but don’t have the budget, then just enter. you’ll find the budget.
and there IS STILL TIME to enter for straight 8 2025. the deadline to have completed filming and got your reel to @cinelabuk is FEB 21ST.

feeling friday fun for @edinstacam getting to chat with straight 8 jury member and inspirational analogue filmmaker @mark_jenkin discussing #super8mm film and cameras and straight 8 and more - and his own inspirations too. then randomly learning about straight 8 the skate move from @cornishcowls jack who’s randomly joined thinking we’re a skateboarding account and now MIGHT be making a straight 8 film (eh, jack?! ;)) and finally a surprise visit from @v2bull of @cinelabuk who wanted to show us his chopper (the 70s bicycle) but instead chatted films and film and explains vistavision (the brutalist) before he chose a very apt feeling friday tune for our playlist in honour of david lynch in wicked game.

@dicerose_film one of our straight 8 family (in love, 2018) who has had to evacuate los angeles and our ❤️ goes out to her and everyone else there and elsewhere who’s displaced and suffering. for context we showed @asifkapadia1 ‘s trailer for 2073. you must see this film urgently.
and then…
@beccawolff27 a producer of the feature doc grand theft hamlet which we urge you to see - it’s so good and completely unique! becca produced a number of straight 8 films and is straight 8 family too (satan’s bite 2018 + pink yoga mat 2019). GTH is still
in cinemas in the uk and will be in the US imminently.
then we chatted with @benslotover an enigma of analogue film and camera everything and serial straight8er (moving forward, 2020 + days of whine 2021 for example). check out his BENS CAMERA SHOW on youtube.
and finally amy @my_faraway who teaches photography in ipswich and told us about her entry to straight 8 2025.
