We now have a new sister newspaper.

Hello Carroll County,
I'm Don Hurd, president of Hoosier Media Group. I'm very happy to announce that our other company, Heartland Media Group, has purchased the Carroll County Comet. The Comet is now a part of our other hyper-local newspapers in Indiana. All our newspapers focus only on LOCAL NEWS. The "secret sauce" for our success is local names and local faces. While other newspapers have lost their focus in serving the communities they serve, our newspapers are highly engaged and a huge part of the communities we serve.
We're excited about becoming a major player in helping Carroll County continue to grow and succeed.
Being president I don't hide in an ivory tower. I'm out and about in the communities my newspapers serve. I even still deliver newspapers each week. I started delivering newspapers when I was 11 years old and I'm still doing it. IT'S FUN.
I'm very anxious to meet with the people of Carroll County to find out exactly what YOU want in your local newspaper. After all, it's YOUR newspaper.
If you want to contact me here's my email address: [email protected]
Looking forward to hearing from you.
We will begin publishing the Comet very soon. There are still some technical issues we need to work out, but soon you'll be receiving YOUR Comet filled with local news.
Thanks for the opportunity to serve Carroll County.

Governor Eric J. Holcomb today announced he has selected Grant County Superior Court Judge Dana Kenworthy as the next member of the Indiana Court of Appeals. Kenworthy will replace Justice Derek R. Molter who was appointed to the Indiana Supreme Court.

“Judge Kenworthy is one of the sharpest legal minds in our state which is what brought her to the courtroom, but it’s her passion for children and families that has kept her there,” said Gov. Holcomb. “The Indiana appellate court will benefit from her critical thinking skills, problem-solving technique, reasoned decision-making and her sense of justice.”

Judge Kenworthy was appointed to Grant County Superior Court 2 in 2010. Before serving as a judge, Kenworthy worked as a Grant County deputy prosecutor for 10 years where she focused on cases involving child abuse, sexual assault, juvenile delinquency and domestic violence.

The Marion City Council violated the Open Door Law by meeting privately on April 19, Indiana Public Access Counselor Luke Britt ruled yesterday. "It is the opinion of this office that the Marion Common Council violated the Open Door Law by meeting in executive session for an unauthorized purpose and by providing defective public notice for the executive session," Britt's statement said.

The council met privately to discuss hiring a lawyer, which is not one of the 14 reasons an executive session is allowed. At its regular meeting immediately following the closed meeting, the council voted 5-3 to hire the Taft law firm after then-President Brian Cowgill initially asked for a vote without a motion or discussion.

The Open Door Law protects the right of citizens and media to access public agency meetings. The complaint was filed to Britt's office by Linda Wilk.

Marion Fire Department Chief Paul David has issued a burn ban for the city effective immediately.

All outdoor burning is prohibited due to "meteorological conditions that are unfavorable for burning," a statement said. "This is due to extreme temperatures and lack of rain for several weeks now causing ideal environment for fires to spread out of control and quickly."

The ban will be lifted when weather conditions improve.

BREAKING: The jury in the "Old Y" trial returned a verdict in favor of the City of Marion, but the full outcome is in limbo due to apparent protocol error.

The jurors returned a verdict finding London Witte Group at 95 percent fault, thus awarding $3.1 million to the City.

Jurors also returned a second verdict that would require London Witte to pay the City back for all services rendered from 2004-2015. However, the jurors wrote that amount at $3.1 million, though testimony only said London Witte performed $1.4 million in services.

Because of the apparent error, jurors have been asked to return to the courtroom tomorrow morning and Judge Happe will decide how to rule.
