On today's , we want to take a minute in between all the well deserved celebrations of women to acknowledge the grave suffering and injustices women around the world are currently facing, including the women of Palestine, Congo, Sudan and beyond.

Women are often disproportionately affected by global conflict and vulnerable to the abuse that follows.

We have deeply enjoyed this experience of exploring the complexity of the South Asian woman experience on and now more than ever it's important to not only celebrate womens' accomplishments but it's even more imperative that we understand why women throughout the globe are struggling just to survive. We invite you to honor the struggles of women globally by taking some time today to seek out knowledge on some of the current struggles for freedom and human rights affecting women across the globe.

And remember to care about women beyond just today. ❤️

Female friendships are worthy of ongoing celebration, extending beyond a single day each year. Big shout-out to our amazing lady friends – the ones who stood by us when our partners didn't, who lent an empathetic ear through several rounds of breaking up with the same red-flag personalities. You've been the unwavering support for our wildest dreams, standing by us through successes and failures. Whether our world seems to be unraveling or when we're soaring high, you're always there. Thank you, for embracing vulnerability, love, empathy, authenticity, kindness, and honesty. Thank you for opening up and being vulnerable and trustworthy of our friendships because it has allowed this friendship to be what it is today. You are appreciated

Our sarispicepod crew would love to shout out all of our female friendships.

We individually want to say, I love you

We at Sari Spice believe in taking the time to do the research, ask the questions and stay informed. Black History Month is not just something that should be talked about in February but all year round.

Shirley Chisholm became the first African American to run for a major party’s nomination for the President of the United States. Her mantra and autobiography was named “Unbought and Unbossed” which showed her advocacy for women and minorities during her terms in the US House of Representatives.

Danté Stewart is a writer and speaker on the areas of black religion, theology, history and ministry.

Maya Angelou was an acclaimed American poet, storyteller, and activist. She was also Hollywood’s first female black director and civil rights activist who worked for both Dr. Martin Luther King Junior and Malcolm X.

Cast Mate Amreeta may be a coder but this doesn’t stop her from trying to make room for discussions in the classroom as you see in the last post. She’s a fan of Amanda Gorman, such an inspirational wordsmith of our generation. Check out some of her poems we should all know about including “The Hill We Climb” for the presidential inauguration for 2021: https://www.dosomething.org/us/articles/6-poems-by-amanda-gorman

We are proud to learn about our Black heroes.

Happy Black History Month! This annual celebration is opportunity to recognize and celebrate the multifaceted contributions of black individuals beyond the pivotal civil rights movement. While it's undoubtedly crucial for South Asians and others to understand the historical significance of the civil rights movement, let's broaden our perspective.

Rather than solely focusing on the past, we extend an invitation to delve into the present and appreciate the remarkable achievements of black individuals who are making history today. Throughout this month, we're excited to showcase diverse black voices and share inspiring stories that underscore the richness of Black History. Join us in this celebration by spotlighting your favorite black businesses, artists, content creators, poets, and authors in the comments below. Let's uplift and honor the vibrant tapestry of black excellence, not just this month but every day!

You do it. Your neighbors do it. Your coworkers do it. Yes, even your parents do it! We are talking about self-care! (sorry to disappoint some of you)...In this episode, we indulge in the world of self-care and explore the meaning behind this iconic mantra popularized by the show “Parks and Recreation”. We define what self-care means to us and examine what exactly self-care is and what it isn’t. (Hint: it’s not all about luxurious spa treatments and fancy vacations and wine!) We also examine how self-care is celebrated in the Western vs South Asian cultures and even between different generations while also providing economically feasible ways of doing self-care . Come and join us as we explore ways in which we can channel the spirit of Parks and Rec's "Treat Yo Self" philosophy into our everyday lives.

The thought of being deemed unworthy of existence by those around you is profoundly unsettling. To experience a reality where one is stripped of their voice, rendered invisible, and unheard is a deeply distressing concept. The feeling of having one's life devalued to the point of insignificance can evoke a sense of isolation, powerlessness, and despair. Such a scenario underscores the importance of empathy, compassion, and the recognition of the inherent value of every individual. Respecting the dignity and humanity of others is crucial in fostering a society that acknowledges the worth of each person, ensuring that no one is marginalized or subjected to such a dehumanizing experience.

THIS IS NOT EVEN CLOSE WHAT IS HAPPENING TO THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE EVERY DAY, THIS IS DAY ONE HUNDRED AND ELEVEN (111) OF THIS HAPPENING TO THE HUMANS OF PALESTINE.

15/01/2024

Monday 1/15/2024, I found myself waking up to the knowledge that I had the day off. It was Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a day dedicated to honoring the legacy of a man who had left an indelible mark on the fight for civil rights. Yet, for me, it was more than just a welcome break – it was a moment for introspection and resolution.

In the past, MLK Day had been just another three-day weekend, an extra day to relax and unwind. However, 2023 had been a year of awakening for many, a year that forced reflection on the state of our society, the persistent inequalities, and the need for change.

It was during this reflection that I made a promise to myself. I resolved that 2024 would be different. Instead of treating MLK Day as just another holiday, I decided to use it as an opportunity to educate myself, to learn more about the struggles for equality, and to have a say in the conversations that mattered.

In the midst of my commitment to self-education and active engagement, I couldn't escape the stark reality that injustices were still unfolding right in front of us. The struggles for equality, though different in nature from the historical civil rights movement, persisted in various forms.

As I delved deeper into my research, I uncovered stories of systemic inequalities, discrimination, and social issues that demanded our attention. It became apparent that the fight for justice was an ongoing battle, and there were contemporary issues that required our collective awareness and action.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day had transformed from a mere holiday into a catalyst for personal growth. I had taken the first steps towards being an informed and engaged member of society.

We at hope this day has more meaning than just a 3 day weekend for you. If not, maybe it is time to self-educate and to be engaged with current events.
