For any UK based frugal filmmakers, Aldi has 12 spring clips (4x large, 4x medium and 4x small) for £3. Cheaper and better quality than pound shop fare and much, much cheaoer than B&Q. I used a couple of bags on the last feature and they were plenty strong enough to hold up a 3x3 metre square of stage black.

A timely reminder of the dangers of using fake fi****ms on a filmset. I'm currently providing lighting equipment to the "Semolina Pilchard" feature film production and am also gaffer on set. While filming on Sunday, we had an unexpected visit from the police. Even when you do everything right, things can still go wrong.

We were filming a post office robbery scene which had been carefully planned ahead for some time. Cheshire police were informed and a crime number obtained for the shoot. Despite this, a passerby ignoring all the crew and camera still called the police and reported a possible robbery. This should have been fine since the police were already informed in advance but despite this they still sent out an armed response unit who managed to arrive just as an actor was running out the post office carrying a fake shotgun resulting in real guns being drawn.
