Geevagh GAA Club
Divison 4B Champions
A great day in Scarden yesterday when Geevagh came out on top in an exciting final against Coolaney/Mullinabreena GAA Club.
Wonderful to see such great support for both teams in a very competitive game.
All ages were playing and all ages came to cheer them on.

Happy Birthday Padraig Gilbride from Kiltoghert.
I met Padraig for the first time on the McGurn farm in Fermanagh at the artists farm walk organised by The Dock.
The ceramic artist, Anna McGurn, had suggested to participants that they pick a wildflower or plant during the course of their walk and before they left she would help them create their own memento by pressing the flower into soil from the ground they had trod.
Padraig picked a Cuckoo Flower and kindly stood a moment to give me this picture.
Thanks to Noreen Gaffney for sharing pictures of Padraig's 80th birthday celebrations yesterday.

A real pleasure photographing the Fairgreen gig at The Dock last Saturday night. It was their first live gig and they had plenty of support, not just from the crowded theatre but also from the bands and musicians who turned up. Totem, Botantics and Croí all performed original work and fairly got the crowd going. Then Johnny McGlynn and Brian Farrell gave a masterclass in crowd control before Fairgreen took to the stage and there was no controlling the crowd then.
Well done to Music Generation Roscommon. All these musicians are part of that wonderful boiling pot. Great achievement.

The Song Thrush and The Alder.
From early morning he sang
Up high in the Alder,
Catkins and cones
Enhanced his tones,
And called me to the day.

The February Sun on his breast
Moved to his wing
Then warmed his back til dusk

All the while
The modest, monoecious Alder
(Considered a stick in the mud by some)
Swayed lightly to the music.
It’s all it needed
And love was on the wind.

Into the night the tunes carried
Across his wet domain
Cat and dog resigned to bed
As I opened a bedside book.

Then catkins rustled
And he was gone.
A percussion finale for his marathon sonata.

Amach to The Dock
Great evening yesterday celebrating the inaugural “ First Fridays” event at The Dock in Carrick on Shannon.
Poetry, film and jazz kicked off with an exhibition of my photographs from Edwina Guckian’s Amach - to the Field project.
I had the temerity to ask photographer Anna Leask - Art and Photography to take a pic of myself and poster boy John Cronogue and she kindly obliged.

The Legend Mickey Boland Lives On
Really great night at the launch of Edwina Guckian's book, Sparks from the Flagstones, published by Lepus Print
The book for children, is packed with Irish Folk traditions and calendar customs, all beautifully illustrated by Andrea Rossi.
But the highlight of my evening was when I was flicking through the book and landed on a wonderful illustration of a Roscommon Herald front page featuring Kilmactranny's Mickey Boland getting ready for the door dancing at the O'Carolan Harp Festival and Summer School , in Keadue.
He'd be proud as punch of that.
The book is available to buy in Carrick on Shannon's The Reading Room Bookshop or online from https://www.edwinaguckian.com/product/book/
