On June 7, 2017, at around 11:00 p.m., Randy Stair, 24, showed up for his late-night shift at Weis Markets in Eaton Township, Pennsylvania (just south of Tunkhannock). Stair led to the store's employee area and obstructed the far rear emergency escape. After that, he carried on with his responsibilities, refilling shelves and tidying up from the day before. He used his Twitter account to share links to many videos and files that described his plans around 12:10 in the morning. The files were titled "Journal," "Su***de Tapes," and "Digital set."
After blocking the last few exits, Stair returned to the staff room at the back of the store and shut the automated doors at the main entrance to the shop. Then, he took out two pistol grip pump-action shotguns that he had stashed in a duffel bag[5], went around the store, and murdered Terry Lee Sterling, Brian Hayes, and Victoria Brong, three employees. He then went up to another employee, Kristan Newell, who was labeling products and stocking shelves near the back of the store when she heard about the shooting through headphones. [6] CCTV surveillance camera footage showed Stair standing behind Newell for approximately five seconds before moving on to the next aisle. [7]
Following this, Stair fired several tiny, portable propane tanks that did not explode, as well as at a glass and other items in the store. At this point, Newell broke the glass door and took down the exhibit at the entry doors to make their way out of the business. After that, she fled outdoors, took cover behind some bushes, and dialed 911.
A little while later, Stair wrapped up filming the merchandise inside the store. Stair proceeded to the store's deli area and took pictures of yet another set of merchandise. Stair killed himself instantaneously by putting the loaded shotgun in his mouth and firing one shell through his palate while Newell was speaking with the police on the phone. There had been fifty-nine rounds fired. Only one of the two shotguns he carried was used to discharge all of the bullets. It was said by Stair in his fifth "Su***de Tape" that the second shotgun was reserved for backup in case the first one "jams or breaks down on, and is unable to fix it."
Randy Stair was a troubled man who found himself obsessed and identifying with Ember McLain, from the Nickelodeon show, Danny Phantom. Ember was an unpopular high school with dreams of becoming a rock star. Stair also had his difficulties in high school, and was working toward his own YouTube career when he entered the grocery store where he worked and killed three coworkers and himself.
