Throwback to Saturday 28 Sep at Vertigo 26 where I played an entire night of Depeche Mode tunes for the Music For The Masses anniversary listening party. It was both a privilege and a pleasure being able to play for fellow DM fans, and curating a flow that included deep cuts, remixes & fan faves for an almost 5hr trip.
This was also my third time doing a DM night, with the previous two also at Vertigo 26. It’s quite a challenge deciding and arranging what tracks to feature as there are just so many things to consider. Stuff like mixing in key, elements of singalong for the older 80s fans, lyrical flow, the tone of the sound leading into each track, as well as inclusion of at least one track from each DM album. It’s a daunting task, but nonetheless it’s also something I enjoy putting it together. Just putting it out here in case some of you are wondering why I don’t do DM nights more often. This is why. I try my best to make sure everyone I do is slightly different from one another. When will I do it again? God knows. Just don’t bug me for it. When the right time comes, it will happen again.

36 years ago today, Singapore organized its first street party that’s Swing Singapore on 27 Aug 1988. Planned in just 17 days, the event attracted around 250,000 folks. There were enough sound systems to power 50 discos, with EMP lighting enough to light up 400 HDB flats, 13,000 m of cables and 1.2 km of cloth to become what’s the largest outdoor party ever held on the island. Were you there? 😅
