How My Website Will Help You Build a More Profitable Roofing Company

I’m Dave Sullivan. I’ve been a successful roofing contractor for more than 30 years with over $150 million in sales and I’m here to show you what I’ve learned. If you are looking for simple, straightforward business advice that will help you take your roofing company to the next level you’re in the right place. Real world advice

from contractors who’ve been where you are and have struggled through the same kinds of problems you face every day. Whether you have a shop of 1 or 100, there’s something here for you. I created this site to be a FREE resource for roofing contractors and their companies. As the site continues to grow, I plan to add all the resources I’ve used to grow my company in the form of simple tips, checklists, downloads. All FREE to any contractor who is looking for help to build a more profitable roofing business. I Provide Simple Solutions You Can Put Into Action Right Now

Until now there hasn’t been a place for roofing contractors to find simple, straight forward, usable business advice from contractors who truly understand the day to day problems you face running a growing business. This site exists to help learning the business end of roofing easier by providing a step-by-step process for jumping ahead of your competition. This is a place where you can find answers from top experts in the fields of:

1. Lead Generation
2. Sales Training
3. Field Productivity
4. Financial Management
6. and much, much more

But Why Am I Qualified To Help You? In 1979, I graduated from the top-ranked business school at the University of California. My plan was a long summer of travel and adventure before joining the family roofing business. I was looking forward to working with my father and learning the ins and outs of running the business. And he was looking forward to his retirement and finally relaxing and traveling himself. Something he could never do while he was “chained” to the business. But those plans were all cut short when he suffered a heart attack from the long hours and stress of running the roofing company for all those years. Suddenly, I had to step up take the reins of the family business. Now I was a contractor. But without my father’s “real world” guidance, it didn’t take me long to run the business into the ground. I knew I needed help but like so many contractors I let my pride get in the way. After finally setting my big ego aside I started the long climb out of the hole I had gotten us into. But I didn’t do it alone. I hired a business consultant and it changed my life. With his help we designed a plan to take me where I wanted to go. I knew I didn’t want the stress of doing everything myself and grinding out a living working 14 hour days. I’d seen first hand how that works out. I wanted to travel while I was still young and have the time to watch my 3 boys grow up. Essentially, I wanted to be able to do whatever I wanted to do. I wanted to enjoy life. I wanted to have a business that worked for me. Not just a job where I worked for my business. And that’s exactly what I did. Over the years I built a wildly successful roofing business that allowed me to step away from the stressful day to day decision making and live the life I wanted. And you can do it too.

Are you tired of wasting time with prospects that will never buy from you?

Determining effective pre-qualification strategies is essential if you want to work less and sell more.

In our most recent podcast episode, we talked a lot about marketing strategies and customer engagement in the roofing business. We talked yard signs, automated review systems, the power of using vanity phone numbers and the magic of QR codes that bridge the gap between physical signs and online presence.

Interested in learning how to utilize the tools available to you in order to better pre-qualify your leads and stop wasting time on prospects that will never buy from you?

The only catch is you have to leave Monday. Most contractors would not be able to take it because they know that their business couldn’t run without them.

They never created the systems and processes necessary to build a company that
didn’t rely on one or two key people. There are no written systems for all critical
operations where the steps for each position are clearly defined and responsibilities assigned.

I know about this first hand! My father built a good business but never delegated the responsibilities to others. He worried that things wouldn’t get done unless he did them himself.

He figured he would do the things he wanted when he retired. But he never made it. He suffered a heart attack from the stress of doing everything himself.

I knew I wanted to do it differently. And I did. It didn’t happen overnight, but after we had the systems and the responsible people in place, I was able to travel the world and watch my three boys grow up at an age where I could still enjoy it. And so can you.”

Do you know how to deliver a good elevator pitch?

An elevator pitch is a quick, 30-60 second explanation of who you are, what you do, what problem you solve, how you solve it better than your competition, and what action you want them to take.

An elevator pitch is basically a shortened, more-focused version of a mission statement, but you will find that an elevator pitch is more useful, practical, and helpful.

What’s your elevator pitch?

1.) Get familiar with your financials FIRST
Are you charging enough? Do you know what your profits and expenses are? Do you have your cost structure set up? Taking a look at your financials needs to be your first step.

2.) Improve your margins in your current market
If you are hoping to “dip your toes” into commercial contracting when you typically do residential work (and vice versa), be sure of your “why”. Will doing this be profitable, or would it be better to continue improving your margins where you’re at? It all depends on where you’re at in your business right now.

3.) Automate your Business
This will save you time and help you get organized. (Virtual assistants, Sumoquote, Ruby Receptionists, Powrline App, and Job Nimbus are a few great things to look into.)

Would you like to learn more about these topics and why they are important? You can find out more in this episode from the archives of The Roofer Show Podcast: https://theroofershow.com/239
