Alia Abou Shahba is a journalist, blogger, and journalism trainer who graduated from the Media Department of the Faculty of Arts at Ain Shams University in 2004. She has worked for several newspapers and websites, including Rose al-Youssef, Al Watan, Al Tahrir, Masrawy, Islam Online, Al-Sout Al-Hur, the International Journalists Network, Raseef22, and Daraj. She reached the position of Deputy Editor-in-Chief at Rose al-Youssef.
She has completed numerous training courses, including sessions with Reuters, Deutsche Welle, and Arij Investigative Journalism Network. Alia has received several journalism awards, including the Global Health Summit Award from the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Best Investigative Report Award from the Fourth Electronic Journalism Forum, the ""Safety and Security"" Award for Women's Journalism, the ""Journalism without Stereotypes"" Award organized by the United Nations Women for the best electronic journalistic achievement, the Mustafa and Ali Amin Award, the World Health Organization Award for the best news coverage of antibiotic resistance, the Plan International Award for the best news coverage about girls, and the Africa21 organization award for the best news coverage of biodiversity.
Since 2015, she has conducted several training courses at the Journalists Syndicate, Cairo University, Ain Shams University, Al-Azhar University, the Egyptian Union of Women Journalists, One Foundation, Rose al-Youssef Training Academy, and DW Academy.
She authored the book 'Al-Wasm' ('The Stigma'), which unveils the behind-the-scenes of investigative journalism and human stories of individuals living with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).
