Who's Emily Laber-Warren?
She is the writer and co-creator, with Siri Carpenter of The Open Notebook, of the Science Journalism Master Classes. Emily has been teaching science journalism for the past 25 years. She is a professor at the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at the City University of New York, where she heads the health and science reporting program. She writes about ageism, the U.S. healthcare system, circadian rhythms and other topics for The New York Times, The Washington Post, Newsweek, Spectrum, Sapiens, Undark, and other publications. Alia Abou Shahba is a journalist, blogger, and journalism trainer who graduated from the Media Department of the Faculty of Arts at Ain Shams University in 2004. She has worked for several newspapers and websites, including Rose al-Youssef, Al Watan, Al Tahrir, Masrawy, Islam Online, Al-Sout Al-Hur, the International Journalists Network, Raseef22, and Daraj. She reached the position of Deputy Editor-in-Chief at Rose al-Youssef.
She has completed numerous training courses, including sessions with Reuters, Deutsche Welle, and Arij Investigative Journalism Network. Alia has received several journalism awards, including the Global Health Summit Award from the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Best Investigative Report Award from the Fourth Electronic Journalism Forum, the ""Safety and Security"" Award for Women's Journalism, the ""Journalism without Stereotypes"" Award organized by the United Nations Women for the best electronic journalistic achievement, the Mustafa and Ali Amin Award, the World Health Organization Award for the best news coverage of antibiotic resistance, the Plan International Award for the best news coverage about girls, and the Africa21 organization award for the best news coverage of biodiversity.
Since 2015, she has conducted several training courses at the Journalists Syndicate, Cairo University, Ain Shams University, Al-Azhar University, the Egyptian Union of Women Journalists, One Foundation, Rose al-Youssef Training Academy, and DW Academy.
She authored the book 'Al-Wasm' ('The Stigma'), which unveils the behind-the-scenes of investigative journalism and human stories of individuals living with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).

Fatma Yassine is the chief journalist of the Community, Health, and Environment section at the Moroccan newspaper "Al-Sahara." She holds a diploma in scientific journalism from the International Union of Scientific Journalism and is currently pursuing doctoral research in the field of law and the environment.
Fatima has extensive experience and received several awards in environmental and investigative journalism. She is also a trainer in the field of environmental media and journalism at both the national and international levels.
Fatima participates in international and national meetings discussing environmental issues, climate change, and health. With over 20 years of experience in the field of journalism, she is a seasoned professional with a significant impact in her field.

Amr Rageh is a freelance science journalist contributing to SciDev-MENA, Al Jazeera Network, and Ida2at. He has participated in science communication and journalism projects with the British Council in Egypt. His academic background is in Pharmacy, which he studied as his major. He also serves as a content manager for an online platform for general healthcare information.

Madha Yahduth ماذا يحدث ؟ I Tunisia
The media arena was shaken yesterday by the sudden death of one of its senior environmental journalists, Ahmed Al-Attar.
Ahmed served as the editor-in-chief of Al-Sabah in Egypt before founding Ozone, a model for environmental journalism. He was known for his exclusive news stories due to the extensive network he built in the environmental field.
Ahmed recently joined the UAE’s Al-Ain newspaper, providing exceptional coverage of the climate conference in the Emirates.
He also consulted at the International Center for Journalists in Washington. Ahmed Al-Attar conducted several training sessions in environmental journalism and collaborated many times with Science Journalists in MENA. He was a good friend of us. We met two months ago at COP28, and we discussed a couple of new collaboration ideas.
May the departed soul rest in peace and be granted paradise.
