Hellmann's has teamed up with Tennessee Titans quarterback Will Levis to launch a mayonnaise-scented cologne inspired by Levis's viral moment of adding mayonnaise to his coffee and the partnership highlights Hellmann's effort to showcase the versatility of mayonnaise beyond the kitchen. The cologne, named Will Levis No. 8, features notes of lemon, coffee, musk, vanilla and a subtle hint of mayonnaise. Despite initial skepticism, reviewers say the scent is surprisingly pleasant. "
RIGHT.

Hellmann's has decided to bottle the smell of its signature mayonnaise in a classy cologne, and we tried it. It wasn't as disgusting as you'd think.

Dear friends, neighbors and loyal patrons,

After much reflection, we’ve made the exciting decision to transition The Passenger from daily operations to public dining only on Friday & Saturday evenings and other select days that we have events in Dickens Opera House, and an exclusive space for private events and themed public events on other days and times. Many of you who have frequented our space have expressed that its unique ambiance makes it ideal for celebrating special occasions. We wholeheartedly agree and, as a business, we want to honor the character of this space by dedicating it exclusively to those special moments.

The restaurant industry is challenging, and maintaining daily service has become increasingly difficult in these trying times. But we are committed to supporting our wonderful staff as part of our transition to a special events venue and our plan to stay open on weekends allows our team to continue sharing their talents with you during this exciting new chapter of ours. With change comes opportunity, and we’re excited to embark on this new journey with you.

Starting this week, we will focus on what we do best: creating unforgettable memories for your most cherished moments. From intimate post-wedding brunches to corporate gatherings, our venue will now be available exclusively for private bookings, allowing us to give each event the attention it truly deserves, offering you a chance to enjoy our culinary creations and warm hospitality.

We want to thank each and every one of you for your incredible support over the years! We believe this decision is the right one to continue serving our staff, patrons and community in a meaningful way. We hope for your continued support as we embark on this exciting journey!

Why they are called "restaurants"

Why they are called "restaurants"

Did you know that in 1765, an innkeeper named Dossier Boulanger opened an eatery in Paris and hung the following sign at the door: "Venite ad me vos qui stomacho laboratis et ego restaurabo vos.” There were not many Parisians who could read French back then, let alone Latin, but those who could knew that Boulanger, the proprietor, was saying: "Come to my house, men with weary stomachs, and I will restore you.” The phrase was so successful that since then, all eateries worldwide are called “restaurants.” Besides the delicious cuisine that became famous throughout France, Boulanger delighted his diners with delicious desserts he prepared himself. Due to the fame of his pastries, Boulanger is also the “culprit” for why bakeries in France are called “boulangeries.”

The word “restaurant” quickly became established, and the most reputable chefs who had only worked for private families, kings, and ministers, also opened their own businesses or were hired by a new group of small entrepreneurs: the restaurateurs.

The term “restaurant” arrived in the United States in 1794, brought by the French refugee of the revolution, Jean Baptiste Gilbert Paypalt, who founded what would be the first French restaurant in the United States called Julien’s Restorator.

There are many curiosities in this story, one of them is the “mission to restore the spirit, the smile, and health” that those who work in a restaurant have. It is a noble, commendable, special mission… Have we thought about how special a restaurant cook is? Or the cook of a small diner? Or the kind waiter who has patience with us as we change our minds repeatedly about what we want to eat?

Each of us is special in what we do if we understand the depth of our contribution to general well-being. A guard, a janitor, a receptionist, a telephone operator in a call center… What do you restore? Whom do you help? What do you contribute to someone else's well-being, happiness, and health?

In honor of every cook, chef, pastry chef, barista, waitress, or waiter who fills us with joy with their delicacies made with love and excellence.

Because He’s Crooked And She’s Not, Half off all Spices starting with the letter C : )

No Swift Boats!
In the 2004 presidential election Republicans were able to turn John Kerry’s heroic military service into a weakness in the eyes of American voters. How did they do this you ask? By lying of course, over, and over, and over again.

Now that the Republicans are up against Vice President Harris they will do all they can to try to once again turn her strengths into weaknesses. The lesson from twenty years back is they can only succeed at this if we sit silently while they do their lying. So we are here to remind everybody to not sit silently.

Kamala Harris dedicated her career to holding criminals accountable. Their guy is a career criminal and convicted felon desperately trying to stall even more trials where he has been charged with even worse crimes.

Those funding the Republicans are now going to spend hundreds of millions of dollars to try and convince us she’s the real criminal and he’s the only one who can protect America from criminals like her. His voters are so far gone they will take this as gospel truth. We must speak out and defend the actual truth so no one just tuning into the election becomes swayed by their lies.

As is our way, a good message travels far, but a good message tied to a great offer knows no limits. So because Crooked and Criminal, through the end of Wednesday 8.7.24, half off all our spices and seasonings beginning with the letter C.

And the letter C is no small fraction of our line. Spices really have been around far longer than letters. A whole lot of them ended up getting named back when the letter C was the Taylor Swift of the alphabet world. The list is long.

Vietnamese Cinnamon, Ground Cumin, Penzeys Cinnamon, Regular Chili, Chicago Steak, Chicken Taco Seasoning, Chicken Soup base, China Ginger, Penzeys Curry, California Basil, Medium Chili, Ceylon Cinnamon, California Seasoned Pepper, Ground Cardamom, and Cajun Seasoning are just a start.

Stock up on your favorites and maybe get a couple extra to share. You can find the whole list here: https://www.penzeys.com/shop/spices/?categoryId=152

We also have half off our Choose Love gift boxes. If you have one of our I Will Vote 11.5.24 mugs it’s the same art on the box. The regularly $89.95 15 jar Choose Love Box for just $44.98 is pretty awesome and a great way to share what we do. Thanks. https://www.penzeys.com/online-catalog/choose-love-15-jar-gift-box/c-24/p-3254/pd-gb

And now C is for Cat Ladies, too! It’s still early, but my favorite piece so far about Kamala Harris’s presidential campaign is just how perfectly she gives a voice to the two-thirds of Americans today’s Republicans are out to silence. Women, minorities, immigrants, and now the latest Republican arch enemy, Cat Ladies.

How did we arrive at this point where Republicans now want to vilify women with cats? Damned if I know. And they’ve come right out and said the problem isn’t the cats. There’s Cat Gentlemen too, but Republicans aren’t bringing them up. It’s like every day it becomes more clear that the central theme to all the groups Republicans are out to vilify is the women at the core of these groups. With Republicans it’s always the women.

Republicans have taken women’s rights back fifty years already. If they get back in power they will take women’s rights back fifty more. Finally people are starting to notice.

There’s still such a long way to go to the November 5th Election Day. Take nothing for granted. Work to turn out every single vote. But the polls are shifting. America is waking up to what this election means to everything that they hold dear. There is good reason for Hope. We just can’t let up.

Long run the job is to turn out every vote. Right now, while so many voters are just starting to tune in, the key is stopping Republican lies about who is the real criminal here from getting any foothold at all.

Please don’t sit silently! This time too much is at stake to let lies once again displace the truth. You can find your own words, but each and every time they try to make him seem like “Not the Crook,” responding with something along the lines of: “Oh That’s Right. Donald Trump Is A Convicted Criminal. I Almost Forgot. Thanks For The Reminder.” has its charms.

At this point you don’t have to be a liar, a cheater, a racist, or a criminal to be a Republican. You just have to be willing to vote for one :)

Thanks for caring. Thanks for speaking out. Thanks for working to get everyone to see just how important this election is.

And if you are low on C spices and seasonings (and you know you are) right now while they’re 50% off is a good time to replenish. https://www.penzeys.com/shop/spices/?categoryId=152

Sharing half price Choose Love gift boxes also helps.

You are amazing,

I’ve always ignored tourist traps and bravely made a beeline for supermarkets where the locals shopped. My travel photos are food photos, so I smiled when I read that one of July’s viral trends on TikTok was “grocery store tourism.”
Users of the social media platform started posting videos they shot in supermarkets around the world, mainly gawking at the odd potato chip flavors and marveling at the prices, packaging and food items they could not imagine anyone consuming.
