🌟 SUNNY COAST 70.3 🌟

🌈 Haven’t quite figured out how to talk about the race without sounding like an absolute ratbag because this was probably the first Tri that I’ve done where I haven’t loved every second of it BUT I’m not here to pretend everything is all sunshine and rainbows so here ya go.

Firstly the good:
🥳 BEST PART OF THE DAY: everyone who I talked to out on course & everyone who cheered my name & yelled !! I still get shocked when people tell me that I had any part to play in them getting onto that course. It really does mean the world and I love that I get to share the course with u all and say hi to you and watch u crush it !!

🏊🏽 The swim went well and that’s about where the “good” list stops lol

The less good:
🚴🏼 Hated every second of the first lap of the bike course, I was SUPER uncomfy right from the start with pain (?) in my right glute and quad. Felt like I had no power through my legs and being down in the TT bars was a grind ESPECIALLY once I turned into the headwind. Got to the hills at the end of lap 1 which let me get up and out of the saddle for a longer period of time and that definitely helped so 2nd lap wasn’t half as bad and I could actually maintain some power heading back into the headwind toward transition.

🏃🏽 Onto the run and oh my god it was hot. Only thing that got me to the first aid station was the thought of chucking ice down my top. They had no ice :)) Lots of water over the head and one foot in front of the other. The finish line couldnt’ve come soon enough tbh

But I did it !! And it’s funny to think that my “horrible day out” was still a my 3rd best half mara time ever and 2nd best 70.3 bike split. Even a race that I spent 50%+ of the time thinking to myself “why am I doing this to myself” resulted in me being more excited to get stuck into a consistent training black so I can dig deeper and perform better next time. Guess it’s all about perspective.

Next up is half !! & then maybe some short tris over summer ?? 🤔

p.s. shoutout to for letting me drag u along to all my races and forcing u to sign urself up too :)) I left the sound on the videos just so you can hear her

I’m still a bit lost for words to be honest.

On Sunday, I became an IRONMAN. 3.8km swim. 180km ride. 42.2km run. One day. One event. One very big dream that felt completely out of reach not that long ago.

To EVERYONE who believed in me - thank you.

The biggest of thank you’s to and the whole community for everything. And especially to my fellow Ironmobbers. I literally would not be here without you.

Endless gratitude to for getting to the startline and across the finish line. Thanks for being so generous with your guidance and wisdom.

Shout out to for not only being the best cheerleader and content capturer a girl could ask for on the day but also sticking by me during all of my long runs leading up to raceday (we’ll pretend that you don’t continue to bail on our Wednesday morning sessions).

Of course a huge thank you to EVERYONE who cheered me on - whether you were on the sidelines in Cairns, tracking me from afar, or just quietly backing me - every supportive person had a part to play in getting me across the line on Sunday.

Walking away from my 1st IRONMAN with a full heart, a tired body, and a mind already dreaming of the next one. I’m more inspired than ever. I learnt a lot out there. About grit. About myself. And about my potential. There’s 100% another Ironman in my future.

Full race recap will be coming soon. Once I win the ongoing battle with iCloud/AirDrop and get my hands on all the pics & vids. Stay tuned.

Happy global running day !! 🏃🏽🏃🏽‍♀️🏃🏽‍♂️

Forever thankful for stumbling my way into loving the runners high. And for every opportunity that posting about my silly little running journey has landed me. I genuinely cannot comprehend how far I’ve come. I NEVER thought I’d be the kinda person that loves to run.

Here’s to every run I’ve ever done; the ones in sunshine & the ones in torrential rain, the runs with good views & the hundreds around the same concrete block, the 6am runs, the easy runs that didn’t feel easy & those that did. To the runs I pb’d & those where I fell short, the runs with good company & the runs alone. To every run I didn’t want to do, but did. And last but not least, to every run that bought a smile to my face 🫶🏽

🌟 Ironman 70.3 Port Macquarie RACE RECAP 🌟

☔️🏊🏽 Unfortunately due to some bad weather in the days leading up to the race, the swim was cancelled the night before & the event was changed into a duathlon.

🚴🏼‍♀️ The 90km bike course was tough but enjoyable. It’s a 2 lap course that is kinda made up of 2 sections - the hilly part & the flat part.

🚴🏼‍♂️💨 Because of the cancelled swim, we ended up rolling out of transition in the order our bikes were racked which meant I was one of the first age groupers to start & I spent the first lap of the bike course getting overtaken by people much faster than I was.

🚵🏿‍♀️ The hilly part was definitely the most fun & my favourite part. I found Matthew Flinders Hill (notoriously steep) wasn’t as bad as I’d been warned about so that was a bonus too. The flat part of the loop was made of a quite rough road surface which wasn’t the most comfortable but I’ve definitely ridden worse. A little headwind that was more noticeable on the second lap but also nothing too horrendous.

🏁 I finished the 90km ride in 3 hours and 7 minutes (28.8km/h).

🏃🏽‍♀️ Off the bike and onto the run. The run course was again a 2 lap course, mostly flat with just 1 hill that isn’t too bad but you definitely notice it as you’re headed up it.

⌚️ I spent the first 5ish km’s sitting around a 5:30/km pace and feeling pretty good. Everytime I looked at my pace on my watch and I was a little surprised by how okay it felt holding that pace and I kind of just waited for the moment that I started to really struggle to hold that speed. But that moment never really came. Like it wasn’t easy but I was able to hold my pace throughout.

🏆 I picked up the effort in the back end and managed to hit a 10km pb (54:28) inside of the half mara. Was stoked to finish the 21.1km in 1:55:31 (5:29/km). Heading into this race I REALLY wanted to run sub-2 hours cause I’ve tried multiple times now and kept just falling short so I was happy as can be with the run.

🏅 Overall I finished in a time of 5:06:16 !

📆 AND we are now less than 6 weeks out from the big dance !! See ya soon .cairns 👀
