This weekend Henry Diltz has had the privilege of photographing the one and only Joni Mitchell at the Hollywood Bowl! Perfect time to revisit this incredible photo he took of her in 1970.

“My favorite pictures of her are when she was looking out the window of her house in Laurel Canyon ...sometimes referred to as “Our House,” after Graham Nash wrote the song about living there together with “two cats in the yard.” - Henry Diltz

On this day in 1996 OutKast released ATLiens 🙌

The record is still as timeless and iconic today, and so is its incredible artwork by comic book illustrator Frank Gomez who had also illustrated DC Comics titles such as ‘Superman: At Earth’s End’ 🔥

Today we’re spinning our x collaboration. A record of songs that inspired, affected and changed the ground-breaking group’s music 🔥 Featuring tracks from early hip-hop pioneers such as The Sugarhill Gang and Afrika Bambaataa, as well as some of the sounds that contributed to the nascent hip-hop movement in New York during the early 80s such as MFSB and Kraftwerk.

36 years ago today, N.W.A dropped Straight Outta Compton. 💥 Their raw, unfiltered lyrics exposed the harsh realities of life in Compton, and ignited a cultural revolution. Definitely one of the most important and essential gangster rap album of all time.🔥

That iconic photo by Eric Poppleton which features on the cover captured the essence of the group – bold, defiant, and unapologetic. We can’t imagine this record with another cover 🙌

Some albums we keep coming back to not only because they’re absolute masterpieces, but also because the cover and imagery captures our imagination.

That’s definitely the case for The Roots’ 10th studio album ’Undun’. The band’s first conceptually-based album features an incredible photo by Jamel Shabazz. Both the record and the photo always manage to inspire us. 🔥

The photo, which is titled ‘Flying High’, is also housed in various renowned institutions and featured on the cover of Shabazz’s book ‘Seconds of My Life’. 🙌

We’re obsessed with Martha Cooper’s photography 🔥

A name synonymous with incredible images of the emerging Hip Hop culture in New York City, she is a pioneering photographer who is famous for documenting the raw energy of graffiti in its infancy. But with the upcoming 2024 Summer Olympics introducing the sport of breaking for the first time, we wanted to focus on how she also helped document the exploding break dancing movement of the early 80s with incredible photos like this one 😍

Nas’ Illmatic getting named the greatest album of all time by Billboard the same year it turned 30 years old is all kinds of perfect.

Not only did the masterpiece of an album normalise the trend of using multiple producers on a single project, by featuring an all-star producer team, including DJ Premier, Large Professor, Pete Rock, Q-Tip, and L.E.S. It also featured an iconic cover which embodied the themes and content of the album. The image of a 7-year-old Nas superimposed over his stomping ground, Queensbridge, NY is forever engrained in our brains 🙌

The Notorious B.I.G. on the cover of XXL magazine, photographed by the one and only Barron Claiborne 🔥

Nas selected “Who Shot Ya?” by The Notorious B.I.G as one of the songs for ‘Hip Hop 50’, his 12on12 collaborative vinyl with Futura, and it got us on a journey looking up old Notorious B.I.G photos and magazine covers.

Today we’ve been reminiscing about Lizzo’s 2022 “Saturday Night Live” performance, which wasn’t just musically powerful; but was also a visual masterpiece.

Referencing the late artist Annie Lee’s “Blue Monday,” Lizzo (Emmy Award winner) channeled the painting’s essence into her stage style.

Annie Lee was known for capturing the realities of Black life, and she perfectly portrayed the daily struggle and resilience involved in waking up to endure another week of hardship in “Blue Monday”.

We love seeing music and art come together in this way, and we’ll be returning to this performance for a long time.

Last year Labrum London and Tupac Shakur’s estate joined forces to celebrate the legacy of a hip hop legend. Every piece; along with every image shared, was incredible and truly represented the values of both the brand and the artist. A collaboration that will stick with us for a long time.
