Just after midnight Wednesday, Minneapolis dispatched a first alarm fire to 1700 W Lake St. for a structure fire.

Engine 22 arrived to a 3-story home with heavy fire on the third floor. Engine 22 laid a tank line and were backed up by Engine 8 who also secured a water supply. Chief 2 assumed command, Rescue 1 began a search of the structure along with Ladder 11. Engine 17 RIT and Chief 2 was ISO.

Crews reported the stairs to the third floor were burnt out and requested a ladder. ISO reported the fire was now through the roof and then command pulled all crews out for a defensive attack.

Command had Ladder 4 set up on Side A and had Engine 17 supply them. Command did a PAR check after all crews were exterior. All crews had PAR and reported searches of basement, first and second floor clear.

There was a lot of construction in the area and crews were hampered by bad hydrant pressure. Ladder 4 had good pressure and were able to knock much of the fire on the third floor. Crews had to make long lays to hydrants further away to use handlines. Command had master streams shut down and then crews re entered the structure to begin extensive overhaul.

Command requested a second alarm due to the extensive overhaul. Around 2 a.m. command started releasing companies.

First alarm: Engines 22, 8, 17, Ladders 11, 4, Rescue 1, Chiefs 2, 1, Deputy, MC, Salvage and HCMC medics
Second alarm: Engines 4, 16 and Ladder 5

Saturday afternoon, with dew points in the 70's, Minneapolis firefighters were clearing a first alarm assignment on Penn Avenue N. when a second fire came in the on 2900 block of Penn Ave. N.

Mobile Command was first-in and reported he had a 2 1/2-story home boarded up with fire showing from Side D with exposure problems. He took command until the Deputy arrived.

Engine 14 laid a tank line to knock down the fire and protect the exposure on Side D and Engine 20 laid a supply and backup line. The Deputy passed command to Chief 5 and the truck companies started removing boards from the first floor windows. Ladder 4 pulled a BlitzFire off of 14's to Side C and Chief 1 was ISO.

Crews reported they had fire in the basement and stairs going to the second floor. As the home was vacant, command advised crews this would be a defensive fire. Ladder 10 put their stick up and Engine 4 laid a supply line to them.

All of the companies from the first fire ended up at this fire along with a few other companies that were dispatched initially. Once much of the fire was knocked down command had crews enter the home to begin extensive overhaul on the first and second floors along with the cockloft.

All crews on scene rotated through performing overhaul. Command requested a company to assist with overhaul due to the heat and humidity.

Saturday afternoon, St. Paul dispatched companies to a commercial fire in the area of Jackson Street and Maryland Avenue. Enroute companies reported heavy smoke and they balanced the alarm.

Engine 17 was first-in and reported heavy smoke but couldn't see what was on fire. Upon entering the complex they reported they had a piece of heavy equipment fully involved and were pulling their line.

Chief 3 took command and had Engines 18 and 8 lay a long water supply to Engine 17 as the fire was set back far from the street. Engine 4 also pulled their line. Chief 2 was safety and command had Squads 1 and 2 check a shed next to the equipment for extension.

Crews got a quick knock on the fire and then overhauled the piece of equipment.

Assignment: Engines 17, 4, 8, Ladders 22, 7, Squad 1, Chiefs 3, 2, Car 5 and Medic 6 Balance: Engine 18 and Squad 2

Late Sunday afternoon, Vadnais Heights Fire with auto aid from White Bear Lake, Maplewood and Lake Johanna were dispatched to a commercial fire on the 3000 block of LaBore Road.

Engine 817 reported heavy fire from a commercial building and were laying a 2 1/2-line for a defensive attack. Chief 801 arrived, took command and reported the building was fully involved and that it would be a defensive fire.

Next-in White Bear Lake Engine 952 got a water supply to Engine 817 and then pulled a second line. Incoming rigs staged their trucks and came up to assist with fire attack.

Command had Ladder 812 set up on side A and used their Ladder pipe as the fire was through the roof. Command requested a ladder from Lake Johanna and they also set up on side A.

Once the two ladder pipes and several handlines knocked down the main fire, crews began extensive overhaul from the exterior.

Monday night around 8 p.m., Minneapolis dispatched a initial response to 38th and Nicollet for smoke from a building.

Engine 17 arrived and reported smoke showing from a two-story taxpayer and requested a first alarm.

Engine 17 laid their tank line, Chief 2 took command, Engine 8 handled water supply and the backup line and Rescue 1 began a search.

Crews found fire in the floor between the first and second floors.

Ladder 11 put their aerial to the roof, Chief 1 was ISO and Ladder 5 assisted with searches with Engine 27 as RIT and put up egress ladders.

Crews knocked down the main fire in the floor and then performed overhaul on both floors to get to hot spots.

Initial assignment: Engines 17, 8, Rescue 1 and Chief 2
First alarm: Engine 27, Ladders 11, 5, Chief 1, Deputy, MC, Salvage and HCMC medics

Sunday just after noon, Minneapolis sent an initial dispatch to smoke from a house in the 3900 block of Snelling Ave. While companies were enroute dispatchers received more calls and upgraded it to a first alarm.

Ladder 2 arrived and reported heavy fire from the rear of a 2-story home. Engine 7 laid a tank line and Ladder 2 began a search of the home. Engine 12 laid a supply and backup line, Chief 3 assumed command, Engine 5 was RIT and Ladder 3 assisted with searches. Chief 2 was safety and Rescue 1 also assisted with searches.

Crews reported wires down in the rear of the home that were arcing. Inside, firefighters reported the fire on the first floor was knocked down but they had extension to the second floor. As more smoke was pushing from the second floor command requested a second alarm.

Crews rescued a dog from the home and members of Rescue 1 and HCMC worked hard to revive the dog. Sadly they were unable to save the dog.

Command had Engine 17 pull a third line off of 7's to assist with the extensive overhaul.

All crews on scene rotated through the home performing overhaul.

North St Paul Fire, along with auto aid from Maplewood, White Bear Lake and Oakdale, were dispatched to a dwelling fire on the 2100 block of South Ave E. Companies were advised that a deck fire had extended into the home.

Chief 501 arrived and reported a working fire in a one-story home that was set back a couple hundred feet off the street. Chief 501 took command and had first-in Maplewood E323 pull a 2 1/2 and bundle for an exterior fire attack. Next in R540 got a water supply to E323 and then pulled another 2 1/2 lie off off E323.

Other incoming units assisted with the long lays and fire attack. Crews reported the main exterior fire was knocked down but had heavy involvement in the attic. Crews went interior and had to pull all the ceiling in the home to get at the attic fire.

Command requested a second alarm as all crews on scene had rotated through working on the fire. The additional companies continued with the extensive overhaul on the interior and exterior of the home.

Just before 2 a.m.m St. Paul dispatched a fire assignment to a dwelling fire at Wilson and Bates avenues.

Squad 1 arrived to a one-story building on Hudson Road that was fully involved. Squad 1 pulled their line for an exterior attack and reported this would be a defensive fire.

Both Engines 4 and 8 pulled their lines, Chief 3 assumed command, Ladder 7 set their aerial up and Engine 3 assisted with water supply to the squad, and 4's and 8's. Chief 2 took safety and reported no exposures and Ladder 24 was RIT.

Within 10 minutes the main fire was knocked down and Squad 1 reported a partial wall collapse. A water supply was established to Ladder 7 so they could hit some of the fire that the hand lines couldn't hit.

Crews remained on scene for some time overhauling and hitting hot spots.

Assignment: Engines 4, 8, 3, Ladders 7, 24, Squad 1, Chiefs 3, 2, Car 5, Medic 17 and Ambulance 2

Friday afternoon, Minneapolis crews were dispatched a first alarm assignment on the 2500 block of 11th Ave S.

Engine 5 was first-in and reported a 2 1/2-story home with fire showing from the second floor A/B corner.

Engine 5 laid a tank line and were backed up by Engine 7 who also got the supply line. Chief 3 assumed command and had Ladder 3 begin a search. Engine 8 was RIT, Ladder 11 and Rescue 1 assisted with search and secured utilities and Chief 1 was ISO.

Engine 5 reported they had the fire knocked down on the second floor but believe they had extension into the 3rd floor. Ladder 11 cut a ventilation hole in the roof and one of the lines was stretched to the third floor to knock down that fire. Ladder 11 also opened up the soffit on Side A to get to that fire.

All searches were clear and crews remained on scene for an hour overhauling the second and third floors.

On Sunday evening, St. Paul dispatched companies to a dwelling fire on the 1300 block of Stillwater Ave. Chief 3 reported heavy smoke while enroute and requested the balance.

Chief 3 arrived and reported heavy fire on the first and second floor Side A of a 2-story home. He took command and had Ladder 7 pull their line and put their aerial to the roof.

Next in Engine 9 pulled a back up line, Squad 1 also pulled their line and began a search. Engine 17 got a water supply to 9's and Squad 1. Chief 2 was safety, Ladder 24 was assigned to RIT and Engine 24 was placed on deck.

Crews reported the had the main fire knocked down on the exterior of side but had extension into both floors and roof.

Command had Ladder 7 cut holes in the roof. All searches were negative and all crews on scene rotated through performing extensive overhaul.

St. Paul dispatched a fire assignment to the 700 block of Thomas Ave for a porch fire.

18’s house arrived and reported a 2-story home with heavy fire on the 1st floor. Engine 18 pulled their line and Ladder 18 began a search. Next in Engine 5 pulled a back up line and Squad 2 took the alley and also pulled their line. Chief 1 took command and balanced the alarm.

Engine 3 supplied 18’s, Ladder 22 was RIT and Chief 2 took safety. Engine 14 got a water supply to 5’s, Squad 1 assisted with searches and secured utilities, Engine 8 assisted with water supply and Engine 22 was on deck.

Crews reported they had the main fire on the first floor knocked and had extension to the second floor and redirected their lines to the second floor.

Squad 2 reported the resident was on side C and had taken in smoke. Medic 10 tended to the resident and command requested a second medic rig. Medic 10 transported the resident.

Crews remained on scene for quite a while overhauling the first and second floors and the exterior of the home.

Wednesday afternoon, Newport Fire was dispatched to a car fire at an auto repair garage at 9th Avenue and Tibbetts Place.

Newport Chief 1 reported he had a large one-story repair garage fully involved. He requested mutual aid from neighboring department.

He had all incoming rigs get water supplies and lay 2 1/2-inch lines for an exterior attack. Cottage Grove Ladder 1 was ordered to set up their aerial on Side D and were supplied by a St. Paul Park engine. Inver Grove Heights laid a water supply to Lake Elmo Engine 1 on Side A and they pulled a 2 1/2" line and used their deck gun.

Once the main fire was knocked down crews remained on scene for some time overhauling what was left of the building.

Assignment: Newport all call, St. Paul Park, Woodbury, Cottage Grove, Inver Grove Heights, Hastings and Lake Elmo fire departments.

Just after 9 p.m., St. Paul dispatched a fire assignment to the 1300 block of Bradley St. for a dwelling fire.

Squad 1 arrived and reported heavy fire from side C of a 1 story home. Squad 1 requested the balance and pulled their line to knock down the heavy fire from the exterior and Engine 4 pulled their line through side A.

Chief 2 assumed command upon his arrival, Ladder 22 began a search of the home and put their aerial to the roof. Ladder 7 gained entry to the attached garage to check for fire extension and Engine 8 pulled a line and were supplied by Engine 3. Engine 17 got a water supply to Engine 4 and Chief 3 was safety.

Squad 1 reported they had the main fire knocked but advised command they had fire showing through the roof on side C.

Engine 17 assumed RIT after getting 4’s a water supply and Squad 3 assisted crews.

One crews had the main fire knocked down the opened up the roof.

Crews remained on scene for over an hour performing extensive overhaul.

Sunday night, St. Paul dispatched companies to smoke in a commercial building on the 600 block of Hamline Ave N.

Engine 18 was first-in and reported they had a 2-story taxpayer with smoke showing from the front door. Engine 18 requested the balance and pulled their line.

Next in Engine 20 pulled a backup line, Chief 1 assumed command and Ladder 18 began a search. Command had Engine 5 get a supply to Engine 20 and Squad 3 assist with searches.

Engine 18 reported they had the fire knocked down and were checking for extension. Command had Squad 2 assume RIT and Ladder 23 assisted with ventilation.

All searches of the building were clear and crews remained on scene for a short time overhauling and ventilating the building.

St. Paul dispatched companies to an apartment fire on the 300 block of Eichenwald St.

Squad 1 arrived to a 2-story apartment with light smoke showing. Upon investigation, Squad 1 reported a working apartment fire and pulled their line.

Engine 17 was next in and pulled a backup line, Chief 2 took command and Engine 8 got a water supply to 17’s and the Squad. Ladder 24 performed searches, Ladder 18 was RIT and Chief 1 was safety.

Squad 1 got a quick knock on the fire and crews ventilated the building and performed overhaul.

All searches were clear but Medic 34 transported one for smoke inhalation.

St. Paul dispatched companies to the 400 block of Herschel Street for smoke from a dwelling.

Squad 2 arrived and reported a 3-story home with smoke pushing from the eves and roof. Squad 2 pulled their line and were backed up by Engine 14. Chief 1 assumed command and requested the balance of the assignment.

Engine 20 got a water supply to the Squad and 14’s, Engine and Ladder 18 began a search as it was reported someone may still be in the dwelling. Ladder 23 was RIT and Chief 2 was safety.

Command had Engine 18 pull a second line off 14’s. Crews got an initial knock down of the fire on the 3rd floor but smoke conditions were not improving and command had Ladder 18 open up the roof. Safety reported fire venting through the roof and command pulled all crews out of the building and did a PAR check and all crews had PAR.

Command also requested two more engines and had Ladder 23 put their aerial up and were supplied by Engine 10. Ladder 18 used their ladder pipe and Engine 14 pulled a 2 ½ line to the C/D corner for an exterior attack.

Once the main fire was knocked down crews re-entered the home to continue with the interior attack. All crews on scene rotated through the building performing extensive overhaul.

Just before 10 p.m., Minneapolis dispatched a first alarm assignment to the 3100 block of Harriet Avenue S.

Engine 8 arrived and reported heavy fire on Side A of a three-story home. Engine 8 laid a tank line, Rescue 1 began a search of the home and Engine 17 laid a supply and backup line. Chief 1 assumed command, Engine 6 was RIT, Ladder 11 and 5 assisted with searches and Chief 2 was ISO.

Crews knocked down the fire on Side A but had extension on all three floors in the front of the house. As crews were working interior with the two lines, command had Ladder 11 pull a third line off of 8's to wash down the exterior as they overhauled.

All searches were clear and crews remained on scene for some time overhauling the exterior and all three floors.

Thursday evening, Minneapolis dispatched a first alarm assignment to the 5300 block of 38th Ave. S. for a structure fire.

First-in Engine 12 reported heavy fire on Side C of a 1 1/2-story home and they laid their tank line to Side C. Engine 21 laid a backup and supply line and Ladder 2 conducted a search. Chief 2 assumed command, Engine 27 was RIT, Ladder 5 and Rescue 1 assisted with searches and Chief 3 was ISO.

Engine 12 reported they had the main fire knocked down on Side C but had extension into the attic. Command had Ladder 5 check for access to the attic. Ladder 5 reported fire in the attic and Engine 21 took the back up line to the interior to knock down the fire in the attic.

All crews rotated through overhauling the fire on Side C and attic.

Minneapolis dispatched a first alarm assignment to a structure fire at 19th Street and 5th Avenue S Wednesday night.

Engine 6 arrived and reported fire showing from Side B on the 4th floor of a boarded-up apartment building. Engine 6 laid a tank line, Ladder 11 assisted with entry, Engine 1 laid a supply and backup line and Chief 1 assumed command. Engine 10 was RIT, Ladder 3 began a search of the building, Chief 3 was ISO and Rescue 1 started opening up the building on Side C.

Crews reported people exiting the vacant building as they were entering.

Engine 6 reported they were hitting fire on the 4th floor. Command reported they now had fire showing from more windows on the 4th floor and now the 3rd floor and ordered all companies out of the building and that they would move to a defensive attack.

Ladder 3 and 11 had set up their aerials and command had them reposition in case of collapse. Command also requested a second alarm bringing Engines 7 and 8 and Ladder 4. Several BlitzFires were set up and Engine 1 used their deck gun as supply lines were laid to 3 ladder pipes.

Fire broke through the roof and Ladder 11 was set up on Side A, Ladder 3 on Side D and Rescue 1 running in a reserve tiller set up on Side C. Crews remained on scene through the night extinguishing the fire.

Minneapolis Engine 6 responded for a power line down at 19 W. 15th St and it was upgraded to initial assignment for a garbage truck that struck a power line. Reports indicated that a power transformer was down and there was a power outage in the area.

Engine 6 arrived and reported heavy smoke coming from a one-story restaurant and they were laying their tank line. Ladder 11 assisted with entry and Chief 1 took command and requested a first alarm assignment.

Engine 10 laid a supply and back up line, Engine 1 was RIT, Ladder 3 assisted with searches and Chief 3 took ISO.

Crews report heavy smoke but low heat and Engine 6 is took their tank line to the basement. Command had Ladder 9 go on deck. Engine 6 reported they had knocked down in the basement and Ladder 11 reported fire in the walls on the 1st floor.

Command requested a second alarm and had Ladder 9 put up Ladder 11’s aerial to the roof and cut some ventilation holes.

All crews on scene assisted with opening up walls and pulling ceiling to extinguish all the fire. Xcel secured the power to the building and all searches were negative.

Tuesday afternoon, March 19, St. Paul dispatched companies to a dwelling fire on the 700 block of Charles Ave.

Engine 18 arrived and reported smoke showing from the second floor of a 2 1/2-story home. Engine 18 pulled their line and Ladder 18 began a search of the second floor.

Engine 5 pulled a backup line, Chief 2 assumed command and Engine 22 got a water supply to 18's. Command had Squad 1 secure utilities and search the basement and 1st floor and Ladder 22 assume RIT and put up ground ladders.

Engine 18 got a quick knock on the fire in a room on the second floor and began checking for extension. All searches were negative and crews overhauled the fire room and ventilated the home.

Engine 18 and Ladder 18 arrived and reported they had a detached garage fully involved. Both companies pulled their lines for fire attack and Chief 2 took command.

Engine 5 and 3 assisted with water supply and Squad 2 searched the garage.

Chief 2 released the extra companies as the crews had knocked down the main fire.

Engine 18,5,3 Ladder 18, Squad 2 remained on scene for about an half hour overhauling and hitting hot spots.

St. Paul dispatched companies to a dwelling fire on the 900 block of Wilson Avenue Tuesday afternoon.

Chief 3 advised companies that this was a hoarder house and reported heavy smoke while he was enroute and asked for the balance of the assignment.

Chief 3 arrived and said he had a 2-story home well involved and advised companies this would be a defensive fire. Chief 3 took command and had Ladder 7 set up for aerial operations and Engine 4 and Squad 1 pull their lines to protect exposures on sides B and D.

Command had Engine 8 get a water supply to the Squad, Ladder 24 also set up their aerial and had Engine 3 take the alley and pull their line to side C. Chief 2 assumed safety, Squad 2 also took the alley and pulled their line and command had Engine 6 get water to Engine 3 and Squad 2. Engine 4 secured a water supply for themselves and Ladder 7.

Crews reported they had knocked down the fire on both exposure buildings and had no extension into the homes. They redirected their lines to the main home and reported heavy fire on both floors.

This home was the site of a previous fire so all the windows and doors were boarded up. As crews opened up the home, they had better access at hitting the fire.

Command requested an additional engine. Once water to Ladder 7 and 24 was in place they operated their ladder pipes and Engine 3 used their deck. The fire broke thru the roof and the ladder pipes were able to knock down the main fire.

Command had crews remain exterior but began extensive overhaul from the exterior. Command released several companies but kept a couple rigs on scene as what was left of the home was torn down.

Shortly after 5:00 p.m. on March 8, St. Paul dispatched an assignment to the city’s west side for a dwelling fire.

Ladder 6 arrived on the 700 block of Cherokee Ave and reported they had heavy smoke showing from Side B of a 2 ½-story home. Ladder 6 began a search of the home and next-in Squad 3 and Engine 6 pulled their lines for fire attack.

Chief 2 took command and had Engine 10 get a water supply to 6’s and Squad 3. Command had Engine 8 also get a water supply and pull their line. Chief 1 was safety and Ladder 18 was RIT and put up ground ladders.

Squad 3 reported they had the fire knocked down on the second floor but believed they had extension into the attic on Side B. Command had Ladder 6 put their aerial to the roof and cut a ventilation hole.

As companies came out for bottles, command had Engine 10 and Squad 1 relieve the crews on the second floor to continue overhaul and checking for extension. All searches were clear and crews ventilated the home and completed overhaul and wash down.
