e again, in December 2010, FB rolled out unrequested and unappreciated updates to the profile page. At "Face" value, the changes appear to have been made to accommodate more ad space....less space for profile updates, smaller font, making info on the left side of the page run vertical as opposed to horizontal. The ad folks apparently asked for more and it seems they got it. On December 7, 2010 the Admins of the page were blocked from adding updates and links to the page. This is the message the admins received when signing on: "Your publishing rights have been blocked due to a violation of the Pages Terms of Use." The phrase, 'Terms of Use' was linked to the following page: http://www.facebook.com/terms_pages.php
Here's what we say to that: Boo!

Original beef:
On April 19, 2010 Facebook implemented a new Profile Page format. Among other things, the new format alters functionality by linking items in the info tab of the profile with (often random) PUBLIC pages. If a user refuses the link request, the information previously posted in that section of their profile no longer appears on their page. In fact, the information often disappears completely. Pages are no longer displayed in vertical format with accompanying icons; instead, the page names are listed horizontally in paragraph form, with one visible icon related to the first page name listed. If you "like" (as you can no longer be a fan of) 5 pages, there will be one line of text. If, on the other hand, you "like" three hundred pages, you and others will now see a large paragraph consisting of three hundred page names. Many users lost their entire page of data during this update. If your profile format has not yet been altered, make sure to back up your data now. Once a profile has been updated, the user is unable to revert back to the previous format...or deactivate this new feature...or retrieve profile data lost in the process. Moreover, the user is now required to take multiple steps to Opt-out of sharing certain profile data with 3rd parties (Opting-in is now the default), making privacy an issue in this current update. Most users were given no prior notice of these impending changes. This format update, and the way it's been managed by Facebook, have left a number of users less than thrilled. An understatement. This Facebook blog entry describes the update (check out the comments section):

Once again, here's the link to the Profile Connections Feedback form which is CRITICAL in getting your concerns to Facebook. FACEBOOK posted a comment in a discussion thread stating that filling out this form is important if you want them to know how you feel. PLEASE SEND YOUR COMMENTS DIRECTLY TO FACEBOOK at this link:

And then there's this little page right here where all of us like minded unhappy campers can convene, vent a little, share our thoughts and concerns about this format update and, hopefully, offer up some ideas about how these issues can be resolved. Your comments, as well as postings of links and photos, are welcome. And, if anyone knows or learns of a fix for changing the profile page back to the previous format...by all means, please share it here.
