INSIDE TRACK is a magazine featuring Northwest auto racing and the motorsports community in Washington, Oregon and Idaho.

The magazine is still stuck on a red flag delay (as it has been for quite a while now) while I balance family needs and personal priorities. When the motivation strikes, I hope to go green again soon, as the Northwest motorsports community has been part of my extended family for more than 30 years now.

Thank you for everyone for your patience during this hiatus.

Sad news from Skagit Speedway on the passing of Bud Ashe.

Our deepest condolences to the Ashe family.

We lost one of our own last night. Bud Ashe has been a fixture at Skagit Speedway since the 60’s. A racer, car owner and employee.

We will definitely miss your face and laugh in the pits every race night Bud!

We wish your family and friends peace and healing during this difficult time.

The Passing of another Great Northwest Driver

We lost another great Northwest driver on Thursday. Leo Voigt has left us way to early.
Leo was a Skagit Speedway Champion and a Washington Open Wheel Champion (WOW).
For those who got to meet Leo, he always meet you with a smile.
Leo Started his four wheeled racing career at Evergreen Speedway, with the Sky Valley bunch, like a lot of us did. That’s were I meet Leo for the first time, ironically, we went to the same high school, but our paths never crossed there.
Leo had a orange super modified that he started with at Evergreen and soon upgraded it with a Barney Barnes super modified and his career just went up from there. Racing around the Northwest that included stops at Evergreen Speedway, Spanaway Speedway, Elma and more. Finally finding the most success at Skagit Speedway making his way up through the 360 ranks and was a Champion in 1986.
I have a lot of fond memories of Leo and will miss his smile. He is now up with our other friends that have past before, sharing all of their stories together.

Please share a memory of Leo with others.

In 1995, Joe Breeze worked his wordsmith magic with a small feature on Rebel Junior juggling preparations for the Jackson Memorial race and the baby that could be born any minute. This is Joe's article from the special Seafair edition of Inside Track in 1995.

When I heard the news of Rebel Jr.'s passing I recalled doing some artwork of Tiger and his dad together pretty early on in the history of the magazine. So searching backwards through the box of issues I eventually found what I was looking for way back in issue #5 from October 1994. Rather than just snap a photo of the magazine I decided to do a proper scan.

It struck me that these early issues are almost 30 years old, and even though they have been stored in a dry box all that time, eventually they will be lost to damage/deterioration at some point.

I have decided to scan every issue from the first 10 years because the physical copies are all that are left (the disks containing the original layout work are no longer accessible).

My plan is to have every copy of Inside Track scanned and permanently preserved and available for all to read by the end of the year.

OK, I'm hoping one of the PHRA Dwarf Cars crowd can help me out with what I have from Saturday at Grays Harbor.

I have two cars that I can't ID and it's a little strange. One is a white car 3R and has the name Rodney Cook (who is not in the results); and the other is a black 3K.

I assume one of those is being driven by Jim Fischer, listed in the results as "3" ... but should that be 3R or 3K?

There are two other names in the results -- 17x Crystal Flath
and 19 Mike Chadwick -- but I don't have photos of a 17 or 19 car. Was Crystal or Mike actually driving the other 3 car by any chance?

I have all the other cars ID'd and will be posting the pics soon, but wanted to clear up the mystery first if possible.
