In 2018, my Flute Concerto won several competitions, including the "New Published Music" competition held by the National Flute Association of the United States. That same year, the International Competition for the best performance of my Flute Concerto in the Flute and Piano version was a resounding success. Yulia Berry, who came up with the idea for the competition and also did a tremendous amount of work to ensure its success, assisted me in this. The Concerto was originally written for Flute, String Orchestra, and Percussion. Other versions followed – for Flute and Wind Orchestra, Symphonic Jazz Orchestra, and an edition for Flute and Piano ( Publications, USA). I have compiled videos of the 15 finalists' performances and will be gradually sharing them with you. The finalists included young flutists from 11 countries. The Jury included renowned performers and teachers from 8 countries. The total prize pool was more than $15,000, plus six orchestras agreed to perform my Concerto with the competition winners.
The Grand Prix was won by the young American flutist Coreisa Janelle Lee. Incidentally, she was the only one to perform the Concerto from memory. Look at how she plays with such pleasure, how freely she carries herself, and how she smiles.
