Hi Folks! Here's some info about the Cajun Zydeco Extravaganza happening July 22 and 23 in Cherryfield! Su Peck is pulling it all together- I remember Su from back in the day, when she brought the Basin Brothers to Connecticut regularly (and, unrelated but cool, was doing carpentry and driving a Toyota truck with about 13 million miles on it- Toyota eventually asked to buy it back and gave her a new one, I was told).

We will have Su on WERU Acadia Highway in the next couple weeks for an interview. BIG FUN COMING TO CHERRYFIELD!!!

Another of WERU's big personalities has left the building...

On Wednesday, December 21, Carlton Johnson, the “Roots Controller” of the iconic reggae program WERU Drive Thru, passed away suddenly. He lived large and was so connected with so many people, and we send our condolences to all of them, particularly his family. Carlton’s death is a tremendous loss to the WERU family, as his audience was large and dedicated. Much respect and positive vibrations, Roots Controller! (Stay tuned to WERU for additional info, including details of a tribute radio program we will put on in the near future.)

Celebration of Mike Joyce’s life and contributions to WERU will take place on Sunday, September 11, 2-5 pm at Fogtown Brewing Company Beer Garden at 25 Pine Street in Ellsworth. There will be speakers and musicians performing in honor of Mike. The public is welcome to attend.

WERU Volunteer, Mike Joyce, passed away in July. Mike was one of the iconic, original volunteers in 1988 and continued to serve the community as a music programmer until the time of his death. He was well known and loved as the host of the Barefoot Blues Hour music show and co-host of the public affairs program BoatTalk. Mike was a unique personality who loved to talk, be it having a chat or talking about “stuff” or boats on his radio shows. He cared deeply about people and the radio station. Thank you, Mike, for all you have done for WERU and our listeners.
