Let's explore some intriguing facts about National Heroes' Day!

Did you know that National Heroes' Day in the Philippines was originally celebrated on a Sunday? Act No. 3827, which established it as the last Sunday in August, saw a transformation in 2007 when President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo signed Republic Act No. 9492. Now, we pay homage to our heroes every last Monday of August.

Here's an interesting twist: Prior to the institution of National Heroes' Day, only Jose Rizal and Andres Bonifacio had their dedicated holidays. This special day was introduced to honor those extraordinary heroes who deserved recognition but didn't have individual holidays. And that's not all! In 1994, former President Fidel Ramos declared 1996 as the "Year of Filipino Heroes," commemorating the centennial of the 1896 Philippine Revolution against Spain.

Fast forward to 1995, when the National Historical Commission recommended nine illustrious figures as national heroes. They include Jose Rizal, Andres Bonifacio, Emilio Aguinaldo, Apolinario Mabini, Marcelo H. Del Pilar, Sultan Dipatuan Kudarat, Juan Luna, Melchora Aquino, and Gabriela Silang.

Today, as we celebrate National Heroes' Day, let us not only honor the remarkable figures from our past but also aspire to become heroes in our own right, contributing to the continued growth and betterment of our beloved nation.
